LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard J. Pisciotti upon the occasion
of his retirement as the Sheriff of Wayne County, New York, after more
than 40 years of dedicated service in law enforcement
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Richard J.
Pisciotti upon the occasion of his retirement as the Sheriff of Wayne
County, New York, after more than 40 years of dedicated service in law
enforcement; and
WHEREAS, The son of Joyce Sanborne and the late Harry Pisciotti, Rich-
ard J. Pisciotti began his career in law enforcement at the age of 13 as
a Junior Deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, at the age of 20, Richard J. Pisciotti graduated
from the Rochester Police Academy and became a Patrolman with the
Village of Lyons Police Department; the following year, he was hired as
a Deputy Sheriff in the Wayne County Sheriff's Office; and
WHEREAS, Richard J. Pisciotti was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
with the Road Patrol Division in 1972, Investigator in 1973, and Chief
Investigator in 1979; he was elected to the first of his seven terms as
Sheriff of Wayne County, New York in 1983; and
WHEREAS, A Trustee and past President of the New York State Sheriffs'
Association, Richard J. Pisciotti has been a member of numerous National
and State Police organizations, as well as serving as Chairman of the
United States Assistant Attorney General's Committee on Street Crimes
and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Finger Lakes Training
Academy; and
WHEREAS, Richard J. Pisciotti is also a graduate of the FBI National
Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and has attended many in-service training
sessions at Finger Lakes, Monroe Community and Genesee Community
Colleges; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Richard J. Pisciotti has been the recipient of a
multitude of awards, honors and certificates of recognition, acknowledg-
ing his efforts of in-depth magnitude; and
WHEREAS, With Richard J. Pisciotti throughout have been his wife,
Dawn, and their three children, Shawn, Nikki and Sarah, and two grand-
children, Skyla and Javon, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard J. Pisciotti upon the occasion of his retirement as the
Sheriff of Wayne County, New York, after more than 40 years of dedicated
service in law enforcement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard J. Pisciotti.
