LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roy Reese upon the occasion of receiving
the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Goshen Chamber of Commerce on
November 6, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Roy
Reese upon the occasion of receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from
the Goshen Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Dinner Dance to be held on
Friday, November 6, 2009, at Catlin Gardens, Slate Hill, New York; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Roy Reese has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to his community and profession and
consequently has been designated for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Roy Reese is a public school educator who devoted 45 years of
his life to nurturing and mentoring both students and teachers; he
displayed the utmost character and professionalism throughout his long
and distinguished career, touching and changing the lives of countless
students, until his retirement on June 30, 2009, as the Superintendent
of the Goshen Central School District; and
WHEREAS, The journey to Goshen began in 1964, when Roy Reese, a gradu-
ate of Hofstra University, began teaching on Long Island; he went on to
earn a Master's degree, CAS and SAS from Long Island University; he was
hired as the Goshen High School Principal in 1985, serving in this posi-
tion until his first retirement in 1995; he came out of retirement to
serve at Beacon School District, retiring from that district only to
return to Goshen in 2004, as Interim Superintendent; he was then
appointed Superintendent in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming a teacher, Roy Reese was a union carpenter
and brought those skills and creative expertise to the Drama Department
at Goshen High School; during play rehearsals and preparation, he could
be found in the midst of a group of teenagers, teaching them how to
build sets, construct lighting apparatus and most importantly, creating
an environment in which the students were excited about learning new
skills and working as a team; and
WHEREAS, Roy Reese has served in many capacities throughout his
esteemed career; he has been a Teacher, Baseball Coach, Head Football
Coach, Club and Class Advisor, Department Chair, Athletic Director,
Assistant Principal, High School Principal, and Superintendent of
Schools; he is presently an Adjunct Professor of Education at Mount
Saint Mary College where he has been teaching for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, In all of these accomplishments, Roy Reese has been "Teacher"
first and foremost; his kindness, honesty and personal integrity have
marked his career; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Roy
Reese over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roy Reese upon the occasion of receiving the Lifetime Achievement

Award from the Goshen Chamber of Commerce on November 6, 2009; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roy Reese.
