LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Cy Farm, Batavia Turf, and Cy Heifer
Farm, LLC upon the occasion of receiving the Business of the Year Award
from the New York State Agricultural Society

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize and
applaud the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and to the quality of life of its people; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Cy
Farm, Batavia Turf, and Cy Heifer Farm, LLC upon the occasion of receiv-
ing the Business of the Year Award from the New York State Agricultural
Society; and
WHEREAS, This most prestigious honor was developed by the New York
State Agricultural Society to promote the State's food system and recog-
nize the quality, leadership and innovation demonstrated by New York
agribusinesses; the first Business of the Year awards were presented by
the Society in 2001; and
WHEREAS, In 1951, with 25 cows and an old tractor, Carl Yunker started
what has since become a diversified agricultural business now operated
by his son, grandson and other key employees; and
WHEREAS, Carl Yunker partnered with his son, Craig Yunker, in 1976, to
form CY Farms, LLC, and in 1986, they added a third partner, P.J. Riner;
today, CY Farms is now a 5,200 acre field crop and vegetable farm oper-
ated by Craig Yunker, his son, Christian Yunker, Mike Riner and a staff
of dedicated individuals; and
WHEREAS, Batavia Turf, LLC, a 300 acre sod farm, was bought in 1996
and is managed by Craig Yunker and a staff of 10; the sod is sold for
residential, commercial and sport purposes; and
WHEREAS, The third business, Cy Heifer Farm, LLC, a dairy replacement
facility, was purchased from the former Agway Cooperative in 2004; this
4,000 head custom operation raises heifers for seven area dairy farms
and is managed by Jeanne Wormuth and a staff of 12; and
WHEREAS, The quality of these three businesses and the dedication of
their owners and staff earned them Genesee County's Agricultural Busi-
ness of the Year Award in 2000, and in 2005, was named by TOP PRODUCER
magazine as a runner-up for the National Top Producer of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The common factor in these successful businesses is managing
partner, Craig Yunker; his involvement in the agricultural industry in
Genesee County and statewide is a testament to his dedication to better-
ing the industry; and
WHEREAS, Since 2001, Craig Yunker has served as Trustee of Cornell
University and as such, he also serves on the New York State Agricul-
tural Society Board of Directors; in addition, he spent 12 years as a
Genesee County Legislator, and is a graduate of LEAD Class III; and
WHEREAS, The diligence and expertise of the owners and staff of Cy
Farm, Batavia Turf, and Cy Heifer Farm, LLC have brought pride and
recognition to each farm, the local community, and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of these exceptional farms and their contributions to
the local and State economies, fully confident that they will continue
to enjoy the sparkling successes they have experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Cy Farm, Batavia Turf, and Cy Heifer Farm, LLC upon the occasion

of receiving the Business of the Year Award from the New York State
Agricultural Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cy Farm, Batavia Turf, and Cy Heifer Farm, LLC.
