LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard and Alice Horowitz upon the
occasion of their designation for special recognition by the Westchester
Jewish Center on March 6, 2010

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to recognize and pay tribute to
those individuals of firm belief and commitment who have devoted their
purposeful lives to the service of faith and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard and Alice Horowitz upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by the Westchester Jewish Center at its Dinner Dance
to be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Richard and Alice Horowitz have been called upon to contrib-
ute their time and talents to countless endeavors on behalf of the West-
chester Jewish Center and their community and have always given of them-
selves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Alice Horowitz grew up in the Riverdale section of the Bronx
and received her Jewish education from the Riverdale Jewish Center;
Richard Horowitz was raised in Great Neck, Long Island, where he was
educated and bar mitzvahed at Temple Israel; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, Alice
Horowitz went to study at Brandeis University, where she continued her
Jewish studies; after college, she returned to New York and went to the
Cardozo School of Law; and
WHEREAS, Richard Horowitz attended the University of Pennsylvania; he
earned his undergraduate degree from the Wharton School of Business and
his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School; after
graduating, he too moved back to New York and joined the law firm of
Weil, Gotshal and Manges; this is where Alice and Richard met in the
summer of 1987; they were married one year later and moved to Larchmont
in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Upon moving to their new community, Richard and Alice Horow-
itz made the Westchester Jewish Center the core of their Jewish life; as
with many families, their involvement began through Torah for Tots and
Nursery School, with their sons, Jamie and Noah; and
WHEREAS, Alice Horowitz and Jamie, became members of "Mommy and Me";
soon thereafter, Alice became involved in the Nursery School, co-chair-
ing the Nursery School Subcommittee; a few years later, she co-chaired
the Board of Education and remained in this position for four years;
currently, Alice is an officer and a trustee of the synagogue and
remains an active part of the Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, For every parent running to evening meetings at Westchester
Jewish Center, there is another parent at home caring for the children;
Richard Horowitz was that parent and when he was not busy taking care of
the children at home, he was coaching Larchmont and Mamaroneck Little
League and basketball; and
WHEREAS, Together, Richard and Alice Horowitz have also made time to
participate in UJA fundraisers, and Alice was an area chair for the
Larchmont-Mamaroneck division of UJA; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Richard and Alice Horowitz have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Richard and Alice Horowitz have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-

tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard and Alice Horowitz upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition by the Westchester Jewish Center on March 6,
2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard and Alice Horowitz.
