LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Charles Mangiaracina upon the occasion
of his induction into the Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame on
March 5, 2010
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals who have distinguished themselves in their chosen
field of endeavor, in their community, or through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Charles Mangiaracina upon the occasion of his induction into the Bishop
Kearney High School Hall of Fame at the school's Hall of Fame Dinner
Dance, to be held at Sirico's Caterers in Brooklyn on Friday, March 5,
2010; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Kearney High School, Brooklyn, New York, has a proud
tradition of a strong educational program, founded in faith and encour-
aging personal and educational development, coupled with commitment to
faith and to engaged citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame honors outstand-
ing members of the Bishop Kearney family and community who exemplify and
support Kearney's mission to educate young women and whose lives and
accomplishments exemplify the tenets of the school; and
WHEREAS, Charles Mangiaracina truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, Born in Queens, New York, Charles Mangiaracina has been a
resident of Whitestone, Queens his entire life; he attended St. Luke's
Parish Elementary School, Holy Cross High School and Iona College, where
he graduated, Cum Laude, in 1975, with a Bachelor of Business Adminis-
tration degree in Accounting; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, he joined Munns & Dobbins, a Certified
Public Accounting firm and became a partner in 1986; today, the firm is
known as O'Connor Davies Munns and Dobbins, LLP (ODMD) and is currently
ranked 66th in the United States according to ACCOUNTING TODAY's "Top
100 Firms"; it is also the 18th largest accounting firm in the New York
Metropolitan area according to CRAIN'S NEW YORK BUSINESS and, according
to the WESTCHESTER COUNTY BUSINESS JOURNAL, is also one of the largest
firms in Westchester County; and
WHEREAS, Charles Mangiaracina has over 35 years of public accounting
experience, specializing in consulting and audits of not-for-profit
organizations, social service and health and welfare agencies, religious
and educational organizations, and skilled nursing facilities; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Charles Mangiaracina has
been called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic,
charitable and professional endeavors and has always given of himself
unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, He serves various not-for-profits as an advisor and board
member and has generously donated his time and expertise in the areas of
grant writing, financing and accounting; and
WHEREAS, He is the Executive Vice President of the Greater Whitestone
Taxpayers Civic Association, a Trustee of the Greater Whitestone Taxpay-
ers Community Center, a Member of the Board of the Booster's Beach Land
Corporation and is a past President of the Dwarf-Giraffe Athletic Leag-
ue; and
WHEREAS, Charles Mangiaracina has, in addition, served on various
committees of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and
the New York City and Westchester County chapters of the New York State
Society of Certified Public Accountants; and
WHEREAS, A man of great faith, Charles Mangiaracina is a devoted
parishioner of St. Luke's Parish, where he serves as a Eucharistic
Minister and as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council and, over the
years, he has been a great supporter of Bishop Kearney's Golf Outing as
well as of many of its other worthy endeavors; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his service to his community, his profes-
sion and his faith Charles Mangiaracina has been honored with the Dwarf-
Giraffe Athletic League's Joseph DiMarinis Award, the Greater Whitestone
Taxpayers Civic Association's Joseph Regan Award, and by the Greater
Whitestone Taxpayers Community Center; and
WHEREAS, Charles Mangiaracina's induction into the Bishop Kearney High
School Hall of Fame is a well-deserved and fitting recognition of his
achievements and contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles Mangiaracina upon the occasion of his induction into the
Bishop Kearney High School Hall of Fame on March 5, 2010; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Charles Mangiaracina.
