LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. Boris Metlitsky upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition as a 2010 Inductee of
the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dr. Boris Metlitsky upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition as a 2010 Inductee of the Long Island Technology
Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, The objective of the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame
(LITHF) is to recognize, honor and preserve the contributions, accom-
plishments, and dedication of historical figures or current leaders in
science or technology who have had, or are having, an impact on Long
Island; and
WHEREAS, LITHF adds a critical layer of enlightened philanthropy to
Long Island's economic engine; similar to the role played by venture
capitalists, the LITHF is an important bridge through which many compa-
nies, remembering their humble beginnings, give back to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Inductees to the LITHF are selected impartially from among
individual nominees submitted by corporate, research, and academic
institutions, as well as colleagues, peers, or other personal associ-
ates; and
WHEREAS, The LITHF Nomination and Awards Selection Committee then
determines the most qualified inductees according to intellectual
acumen, lifetime achievement, overall impact on the advancement of
science and technology, national prominence, contributions to Long
Island's economic development and commitment to the Long Island communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Boris Metlitsky is a graduate of Moscow Institute of
Electronic Machine Building (Russia) where he received both an M.S. and
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering; in 1980, he immigrated to the United
States; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Dr. Boris Metlitsky accepted an engineering position
with Symbol Technologies, a fledgling start-up company with only 30
employees; he grew with the company, rising though the ranks to eventu-
ally lead all product development; and
WHEREAS, With 94 patents in his name, Dr. Boris Metlitsky contributed
significantly to Symbol's leadership in barcode scanning; he was also
instrumental in helping Symbol grow its business into new areas of tech-
nology and succeed in mobile computing, enterprise wireless local area
networks (eWLAN), and RFID (radio frequency identification); he led
engineering and product development when Symbol won the National Medal
of Technology in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Recently retired from Motorola Inc. where he was Senior Vice-
President in charge of the Worldwide Enterprise Solutions organization
within Motorola's Enterprise Mobility Solutions (EMS) business, Dr.
Boris Metlitsky was responsible for product strategy, product develop-
ment, financial management and innovation; the organization he led
developed and marketed mobile computing, advanced data capture and RFID
products and solutions; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Boris Metlitsky is not only an accomplished businessman
and talented engineering leader, but he is also an exceptional motivator
who has always inspired those with whom he works; he has fostered and
helped shape the careers of many individuals along the way, mentoring
them and helping them develop as leaders in their own rights; many of
these individuals now occupy senior executive positions within Motorola
and other companies; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Dr. Boris Metlitsky
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Boris Metlitsky has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Boris Metlitsky upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition as a 2010 Inductee of the Long Island Technology
Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Boris Metlitsky.
