LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Gina Marie Martuscello upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished Girl Scout Gold Award, the most
prestigious of Scouting honors, on April 5, 2010

WHEREAS, Gina Marie Martuscello, through her diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious honor, the
Girl Scout Gold Award; the ceremony will be held on Monday, April 5,
2010, at West Sayville Fire House, West Sayville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Gina Marie Martuscello joined the Girl Scouts when she was in
the first grade and has been a proud member for the past 12 years; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, While a Junior Scout, Gina Marie Martuscello earned a Bronze
Award by making pet beds and collecting food, as well as other items for
local animal shelters; and
WHEREAS, Gina Marie Martuscello earned a Silver Award by helping the
Sayville food pantry; she collected cans and bottles, recycled them for
money and in return, purchased numerous toiletries and donated them to
the pantry; she also worked closely with her Aunt, whose company donated
boxes full of shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and hair gel; when all
items arrived at the panty, she also helped to stock the items; and
WHEREAS, Since 1980, Senior Girl Scouts have capped their years of
achievement in Girl Scouting with the Girl Scout Gold Award; and
WHEREAS, In order to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, a girl must
fulfill five requirements; chief among them is the design and completion
of a Gold Award Project; this project must build upon the interests of
the girl, provide a service to the community, and be of lasting benefit;
and
WHEREAS, For her project, Gina Marie Martuscello volunteered at the
Good Samaritan Nursing Home; she assisted there at least two times a
week, helping transport residents to and from their rooms and distribut-
ing food and drinks to them; however, for the most part, she worked in
the recreational centers where she would organize games and help resi-
dents who needed it; and
WHEREAS, Towards the end of her time at the Nursing Home, Gina Marie
Martuscello planned a "Day of Fun" for the residents; they played
musical bingo as well as modified bowling, which were followed by
refreshments; in addition, she organized a car wash so that she could
purchase prizes for all those who participated; she also donated a new
board game to the home; and
WHEREAS, Gina Marie Martuscello is a Senior at Bayport-Blue Point High
School in Bayport, New York; she also takes an Early Childhood Education
course at eastern Suffolk BOCES; and
WHEREAS, An avid athlete, Gina Marie Martuscello has been an essential
member of the Varsity Cross Country, Winter Track and Spring Track teams
since the ninth grade; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her athletic interests, Gina Marie Martuscello
is actively involved with Skills USA; currently, she is working on
creating an outdoor nature explore classroom; she will travel to states
for a community service competition where she will present this project;
she was also in a competition for Skills USA her junior year; she came

in second at the Regional level and third at the State level for her
work as a Preschool teacher's assistant; and
WHEREAS, Outside of school and Scouting, Gina Marie Martuscello works
closely with several organizations some of which include: Habitat for
Humanity, SADD, Penny Harvest, Vacation Bible School, Yearbook club and
the One Act Play Festival; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gina Marie Martuscello works at the Bluepoint
Library and also interns twice a week at Sylvan Avenue Elementary
School; when she attends college, she will major in Elementary Education
with a minor in Special Education; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman has been involved in Scouting
for years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all of the
necessary achievements; and
WHEREAS, Gina Marie Martuscello is a credit to her family, her school,
her community, her State and her Nation, and no doubt her future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Gina Marie Martuscello upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gina Marie Martuscello.
