LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Siham Accacha upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Diabetes Research Insti-
tute on April 12, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals whose professional commitment and dedication enhance the excellence
of health care in their community and the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Siham Accacha upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the Diabetes Research Institute at its 7th Annual Cooking for a
Cure Benefit to held on Monday, April 12, 2010, at Page One Restaurant,
Glen Cove, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Diabetes Research Institute, a center of excellence at
the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, is a recognized
world leader in cure-focused research; since its inception in the early
1970s, the DRI has made significant contributions to the field of
diabetes research, pioneering many of today's techniques; and
WHEREAS, As the Chief of the Pediatrics Diabetes Program at Winthrop
University Hospital, Dr. Siham Accacha has continually demonstrated
extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership
in her unwavering service to her medical profession; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Siham Accacha graduated from medical school at the
University of Bordeaux II in Bordeaux, France in 1992; she practiced
medicine as a family practitioner in France for five years during which
time she developed a specific interest in the field of pediatrics; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Dr. Siham Accacha came to the United States to
complete her pediatric residency at New York Medical Collage at St.
Vincent's Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Highly-respected and extremely gifted, Dr. Siham Accacha
served as the acting Chief Resident during the last year of her residen-
cy; she graduated in 2001 and immediately went on to further her educa-
tion by enrolling in the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Endocrinology,
Diabetes and Metabolism at Winthrop University Hospital; and
WHEREAS, During her fellowship, Dr. Siham Accacha developed a special
interest for diabetes and obesity related conditions; upon graduation in
2005, she was offered a position as a full time Attending in Pediatric
Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Winthrop University Hospital;
and
WHEREAS, After three years as an Attending, Dr. Siham Accacha was
promoted as the Director of Pediatric Diabetes Program; she works close-
ly with Jean Corrigan, Director of Diabetes Education to improve the
care of children with diabetes; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Khosrow, and her
two daughters, Pardiss and Saba, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Exemplifying the virtues of sacrifice, excellence and perse-
verance, Dr. Siham Accacha is a strong and pioneering role model to be
emulated by all; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Dr. Siham Accacha has proven
herself to be an invaluable asset to medicine and to the health and
welfare of the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Siham Accacha upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Diabetes Research Institute on April 12, 2010; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Siham Accacha.
