LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mark Knowles, Becky Knowles, Andrew
Paradiso, Mark Quill, Kevin Clarke, Dan Azzolina, Donna Gauger, and
Natalie Acierno in recognition of their heroic actions in saving the
life of Cameron Knowles on March 26, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency medical situations in an
effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mark Knowles, Becky Knowles, Andrew Paradiso, Mark Quill, Kevin Clarke,
Dan Azzolina, Donna Gauger, and Natalie Acierno in recognition of their
heroic actions in saving the life of Cameron Knowles on March 26, 2009;
and
WHEREAS, On March 26, 2008, seven-year-old Cameron Knowles of Greece,
New York, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home as a result of a rare
syndrome; and
WHEREAS, Discovered in his bedroom by his parents, not breathing and
with no pulse, Cameron's mother, Becky, immediately administered CPR
while his father, Mark, called the Greece Ridge Fire Department for
assistance; furthermore, Dispatcher Dan Azzolina made critical decisions
for a timely response; and
WHEREAS, Becky Knowles' training as an EMT/Nursing student enabled her
to perform the critical task of keeping her son's heart pumping blood
until additional emergency medical assistance arrived; and
WHEREAS, Arriving at the Knowles home within two minutes after being
called, the EMTs of the Greece Ridge Fire Department, Mark Quill, Kevin
Clarke, and Andrew Paradiso administered emergency medical assistance; a
few minutes later, EMTs Donna Gauger and Natalie Acierno of the Monroe
Ambulance unit, arrived and administered further critical medical
support; and
WHEREAS, Rushed to Unity Hospital, Cameron Knowles was just barely
breathing on his own; he was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit
at Golisano Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical
Center for further treatment; and
WHEREAS, On April 4, 2009, an internal cardiac defibrillator was
implanted in the chest of Cameron Knowles, and by April 11, 2009, Camer-
on was back home; and
WHEREAS, Cameron Knowles' life is nearly back to normal; he enjoys
riding his bike, using his new golf clubs and playing video games; and
WHEREAS, Given another chance at life, Cameron Knowles will be part of
a press conference on National CPR Day to help people understand the
value of learning CPR; and
WHEREAS, As a result of the heroic actions of Mark Knowles, Becky
Knowles, Andrew Paradiso, Mark Quill, Kevin Clarke, Dan Azzolina, Donna
Gauger, and Natalie Acierno on March 26, 2009, the precious life of
Cameron Knowles was saved; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the State of New York who perform
rescue operations with diligence and precision, resulting in heroic
life-saving actions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mark Knowles, Becky Knowles, Andrew Paradiso, Mark Quill, Kevin
Clarke, Dan Azzolina, Donna Gauger, and Natalie Acierno in recognition
of their heroic actions in saving the life of Cameron Knowles; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mark Knowles, Becky Knowles, Andrew Paradiso, Mark Quill,
Kevin Clarke, Dan Azzolina, Donna Gauger, and Natalie Acierno.
