LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Arlene Rosenstock upon the occasion of
her designation by the Association of Orthodox Jewish Teachers as the
recipient of its Special Education Administrator of the Year Award on
April 25, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend illustrious individuals of distinguished purpose whose lives
have been committed to the pursuit of excellence in the education of the
youth of the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend Arlene Rosenstock upon the occasion of her designation by the
Association of Orthodox Jewish Teachers of the New York City Public
Schools as the recipient of its Special Education Administrator of the
Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Arlene Rosenstock, Chairperson, Committee on Special Educa-
tion (CSE) 6, New York City Department of Education, will be honored at
the organization's 40th Annual Luncheon, to be held at The Renaissance
in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, April 25, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Arlene Rosenstock, born and raised in Brooklyn, grew up in a
Board of Education household and followed her father into the school
system, beginning her career in education as a speech teacher; her
father, Bernard Storch, A "H, was a math teacher who taught for many
years at Automotive High School and then New Utrecht High School; and
WHEREAS, After being excessed in the mid-70s, she returned to graduate
school and finished her masters' degree in speech pathology at Brooklyn
College; following several child-care leaves, during which she worked as
a speech pathologist for Early Intervention, Arlene Rosenstock was
employed in a special education preschool, and worked as an evaluator of
speech for the New York State Office of Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, She then returned to the Department of Education as a speech
teacher in District 22 and afterward became an Educational Evaluator in
District 18, after which she served as a Special Education Evaluation
and Placement Officer (SEEPO) for District 18 and then for District 22;
and
WHEREAS, In her current position as the Chairperson of the Committee
on Special Education at Flatlands Avenue, covering Districts 17, 18 and
22, Arlene Rosenstock understands that the parents who come to her
office are seeking help and guidance and, along with her staff, she and
her team make every effort possible to see that all children receive the
appropriate services to succeed; and
WHEREAS, With Arlene Rosenstock throughout have been her husband Alan;
their children and their spouses, Binyamin and Brianne, Ely and Ruthie,
and Aliza and David; and their grandchildren Mark, Eden, Bailey, Noah
and Yoni, all of whom are proud to be part of her life and rejoice in
her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such accomplishment are brought to our attention it is appropri-
ate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the edification and
emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Arlene Rosenstock upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Teachers' Special Educa-
tion Administrator of the Year Award on April 25, 2010; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Arlene Rosenstock.
