LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Linda Marie Harrison Jones-
Bey, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Linda Marie Harrison Jones-Bey of Hempstead, New York died on
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the age of 68; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey distinguished herself in her profession and
by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey was born in Brooklyn on September 26, 1941,
the daughter of Olivia Golden Badgett Harrison and William Harrison; she
died on April 14, 2010 after suffering with cancer for one year; and
WHEREAS, A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at
Memorial Presbyterian Church in Roosevelt, New York; Linda Jones-Bey is
remembered for her beauty, living well, the unconditional love she gave
to her family and her dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey graduated from William Cullen Bryant High
School in 1958, and in 1969, after staying home to raise her two young
children, she began her career in social work and later returned to
school; and
WHEREAS, After earning her Bachelor's degree, Linda Jones-Bey went on
to earn her Master's Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University in
1985; she became a certified social worker and an OASAS Certified Alco-
hol & Substance Abuse Counselor, with a specialization in Clinical Biof-
eedback; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey dedicated her life to helping others both in
the public sector working as a social worker for more than 30 years, and
later in a private psychotherapist practice; from 1984 through March
2010, she helped clients in her private practice in Hempstead, New York;
and
WHEREAS, From 1990-2000, Linda Jones-Bey served as an adjunct faculty
member at her alma mater, Adelphi University, working as a Field
Instructor for graduate social work students; from 1969-2000, she worked
for Nassau County Department of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and
Developmental Disabilities Services in various capacities and in differ-
ent departments; and
WHEREAS, After un-retiring twice to help raise her two grandsons,
Linda Jones-Bey built up her private practice to acquire over 60
clients; although she had a distinguished professional career, she will
be remembered most for the unconditional love she gave her children and
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Linda Jones-Bey is survived by her best friend and sister,
Jan, daughter, Lisa, her son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Suzette, as well
as her grandchildren, Hashim, Ahmed, and Michael, Jr., and numerous
cousins, nephews, in-laws and special friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Linda Jones-Bey leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Linda Marie Harrison Jones-Bey, distinguished citizen
and devoted member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Linda Marie Harrison Jones-Bey.
