LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dennis Milton upon the occasion of
being named Gael of the Year at the 34th Annual Queens County St.
Patrick's Day Parade

WHEREAS, Saint Patrick's Day is a time for all to celebrate the rich
heritage of the Irish people, unlimited in their contributions to this
greatly diverse land of ours; and
WHEREAS, A Saint Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dennis Milton upon the occasion of being named Gael of the Year at
the 34th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday,
March 7, 2009; and
WHEREAS, A native New Yorker who was born in the South Bronx, Dennis
Milton comes from a family ingrained as ironworkers in the trades; he
and his relatives combined possess over 325 years of experience; and
WHEREAS, A proud union member of Ironworkers Local 580 for over 40
years, Dennis Milton came through the ranks serving as a journeyman,
certified welder, shop steward, foreman, general foreman and currently
its business agent; and
WHEREAS, Educated in machine and metal trades, Dennis Milton attended
both the Cornell University and Xavier University Arbitration Study; and
WHEREAS, Active within the Local 580, Dennis Milton has served 28
years as an elected officer, three years as an examining board member,
six years as recording secretary, 19 years as business agent and 19
years as delegate for the New York State District Council of Ironwork-
ers; in addition, he served 12 years as Local 580 joint funds trustee,
annuity trustee, and apprentice trustee; and
WHEREAS, Each year as we honor St. Patrick, whose life mirrored a deep
and abiding example of the challenges of sainthood, we are mindful of
the history of the Irish people and their struggle against oppression,
religious intolerance and political, social and economic barriers; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish culture and its fine traditions; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dennis Milton upon the occasion of being named Gael of the
Year at the 34th Annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dennis Milton.
