LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sister Joan DiRienzo, MPF upon the occa-
sion of her induction into Fontbonne Hall Academy's Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Sister Joan DiRienzo has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sister Joan
DiRienzo, MPF, upon the occasion of her induction into Fontbonne Hall
Academy's Hall of Fame, to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, in
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sister Joan DiRienzo has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Sister Joan DiRienzo, MPF, was born and raised in Tuckahoe,
New York; she has been a member of the Religious Teachers Filippini for
38 years; in addition to New York, Sister Joan has been missioned in New
Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio; she is in her 3rd year of service to her
community as a Provincial Councillor; and
WHEREAS, Sister Joan received her B.A. degree in Education from Feli-
cian College, an M.A. degree in Religious Studies from St. Charles
Borromeo Seminary, and an M.S. degree in Education from Fordham Univer-
sity; and
WHEREAS, Sister Joan DiRienzo has served as the principal at St.
Bernadette School for the past 11 years; in 2008, St. Bernadette School
was named a No Child Left Behind National Blue Ribbon School of Excel-
lence, the only non-public school so awarded in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Passionate about Catholic education, Sister Joan feels that
Catholic schools are the surest way of ensuring the future leadership of
the Nation; in 2009, she received the National Catholic Education Asso-
ciation (NCEA) Distinguished Principal Award for New York State; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Sister Joan DiRienzo represents the elementary
principals of Kings County on the Board of Directors for the Catholic
School Administrators Association of New York State; she has served on
the Elementary Principal's Advisory Council for the Diocese of Brooklyn;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Sister Joan DiRienzo has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sister Joan DiRienzo has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Joan DiRienzo, MPF, upon the occasion of her induction into
Fontbonne Hall Academy's Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Joan DiRienzo, MPF.
