LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Police Officer David Mahmoud upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition on May 6, 2010 for
his distinguished service to the 75th Precinct and as a 1st Responder on
9/11

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Police Offi-
cer David Mahmoud upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition for his distinguished service to the 75th Precinct and as a
1st Responder on 9/11; a celebration will be held in his honor on Thurs-
day, May 6, 2010, at Savannah Lounge, East Meadow, New York; and
WHEREAS, Appointed to the New York City Police Department on June 30,
1995, Officer David Mahmoud was assigned to the 75th Precinct upon
completion of his training at the Police Academy; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being a Police Officer, David Mahmoud worked as a
butcher in his family's grocery store where he learned the value of hard
work and dedication, which his parents instilled in him, and he remem-
bered those values each and every time he donned a New York Police
Department uniform; and
WHEREAS, Officer Mahmoud spent nine years in a patrol squad in the
75th Precinct, learning to handle any and all Police related calls for
assistance; during this time, he was respected by both his peers and the
community and earned the reputation of a levelheaded and knowledgeable
Patrolman in the communities of East New York, Cypress Hills, City Line
and Starett City; and
WHEREAS, After several years of cultivating his craft as a Police
Officer while proudly "pushing a sector car", which is police lingo for
handling a steady sector, Officer David Mahmoud was rewarded for his
hard work and knowledge by being assigned to the Elite 75th Precinct
Burglary Apprehension Team unit; and
WHEREAS, During his assignment to the 75th Precinct while serving both
the Patrol and Burglary Units, crime had taken an unprecedented drop in
both the community he served and the City of New York; Officer David
Mahmoud was an integral part of the New York Police Department in
returning Brooklyn and New York City to be the "safest" big cities in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, During his career, Officer David Mahmoud has been credited
with over 200 arrests and has earned two Commendations, five Meritorious
Police Duty and 15 Excellent Police Duty awards; and
WHEREAS, Officer David Mahmoud was a 1st responder to the World Trade
Center terrorist attack and spent over one hundred hours at Ground Zero
during the weeks and months immediately following September 11th,
witnessing firsthand the disaster; and
WHEREAS, During the months and years following the 9/11 attacks, Offi-
cer David Mahmoud generously contributed to the rebuilding of the
bruised City by volunteering his time and financially assisting those
Officers and their families who were immediately affected by the
attacks; sometimes, the greatest attributes he offered were his ears and

a wise word of wisdom he could relay to a younger colleague as a
respected mentor of the 75th Precinct family; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Bessie, and their
three daughters, Cynthia, Ashly and Amber, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Police Officer David Mahmoud upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition on May 6, 2010, for his distinguished
service to the 75th Precinct and as a 1st Responder on 9/11; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Police Officer David Mahmoud.
