LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Rosato upon the occasion of
receiving the Distinguished Member Award from the National Police
Defense Foundation on May 13, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
individuals of preeminent character whose lives exemplify the highest
ideals of humanity and whose lifework and civic endeavor serve to
enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Rosato upon the occasion of receiving the Distinguished Member
Award from the National Police Defense Foundation at its Annual Awards
Dinner to be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Russo's on the Bay,
Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Michael Rosato has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to his community and profession and
consequently has been designated for this most prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Michael Rosato attended the Suffolk County Police
Academy, Class 89-104 as a Part-Time Police Officer; three weeks before
graduation he was interviewed and appointed as a Police Officer for the
Incorporated Village of Ocean Beach Police Department on Fire Island;
his tenure with OBPD started as a seasonal Police Officer but before the
season ended he was promoted to part time where he served four off
seasons and five summers; and
WHEREAS, The following year, Michael Rosato was hired as a seasonal
Police Officer with the Town of Riverhead Police Department where he was
made part-time at season's end; and
WHEREAS, While working for both Departments, Michael Rosato applied to
work for the NYPD; while awaiting word from NYPD, he accepted an
appointment with the China Lake Police Department which is governed by
the Department of Defense and a branch of the Naval Intelligence
Services; and
WHEREAS, Michael Rosato was assigned to China Lake Naval Weapons Base
in California and after two short years he received a call from the NYPD
that his background was complete and he would be in the next class; and
WHEREAS, After completing the NYPD Police Academy, Michael Rosato was
assigned to the 65th Precinct in Brooklyn and later worked at 100th
Precinct in the Rockaways in the Borough of Queens; he later detailed to
the Criminal Justice Bureau in the Queens Criminal Courts Section where
he completed his career; and
WHEREAS, In December 2007, Michael Rosato was appointed as the Dele-
gate for the National Police Defense Foundation and has been intimately
involved in the administration of the Operation Kids and Safe Cop
programs; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Laura, who feels priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Micha-
el Rosato over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Rosato upon the occasion of receiving the Distinguished
Member Award from the National Police Defense Foundation on May 13,
2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Rosato.
