LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt upon the occa-
sion of her designation as the recipient of the 2009 African American
Heritage Award on February 27, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge those exemplary individuals whose purposeful lives
and distinguished careers have been committed to bettering the quality
of life in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kim
Lisa Hampton-Hewitt upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient
of the 2009 African American Heritage Award at a ceremony to be held on
Friday, February 27, 2009, at The Bronx Library Center; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence,
and diligent leadership in her unwavering service to her community and
profession and consequently has been designated for this most presti-
gious honor; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt
attended P.S. 335 and Junior High School 35, both of which are located
in Bedford Stuyvesant, New York; she then graduated from Bay Ridge High
School in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt attended Utica
College of Syracuse University; while extremely dedicated to her educa-
tion, she returned home so that she could both work full time and attend
college full time; in 1988, she graduated from Pace University with a
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt began her esteemed career as a Pre-
Kindergarten Teacher in District 14 in Brooklyn, New York; while teach-
ing, she attended Teacher's College Columbia University where she earned
her first Master's degree in Early Child Education in 1992; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt became a teacher at Hunter
College Elementary School in Manhattan; she again returned to college,
and in 1999, she received her Master's of Science in Administration and
Supervision from Baruch College; and
WHEREAS, Well-known and highly respected, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt
became an Assistant Principal in District 8 in 2000; she remained in
that position until 2004, when she was promoted to Principal of M.S.
101-The Edward R. Byrne School also in District 8; she is currently a
doctoral student at Northern Central University; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt
has been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors and has always given of herself unstint-
ingly; and
WHEREAS, She is an active member of Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect, and commitment as that demonstrated by Kim
Lisa Hampton-Hewitt over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-

tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt upon the occasion of her designation as
the recipient of the 2009 African American Heritage Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kim Lisa Hampton-Hewitt.
