LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the students at the Albany Community
Charter School, Brighter Choice School for Boys and Brighter Choice
School for Girls for obtaining outstanding academic success

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the students at the Albany Community Charter School, Brighter
Choice School for Boys and Brighter Choice School for Girls for continu-
ing high achievement, an accomplishment that clearly demonstrates an
enduring pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the students
at the Albany Community Charter School, Brighter Choice School for Boys
and Brighter Choice School for Girls for obtaining outstanding academic
success; and
WHEREAS, The nonprofit Brighter Choice Foundation provides start-up
grants, school facilities, a revolving loan fund, and technical assist-
ance to eleven public charter schools in the City of Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, The public charter schools established in Albany by the
Brighter Choice Foundation are based upon some of the top urban schools
in the United States, with a focus on replicating best practices and
proven school models; these schools, assisted by the Brighter Choice
Foundation, each offer small-school settings, longer school days and
scholastic years, high academic and behavioral expectations, extensive
use of data to inform instruction, along with school uniform attire; and
WHEREAS, Since 2008, the Brighter Choice Foundation has collaborative-
ly established a mentorship program with members of The New York State
Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus; studies
consistently show that youth who are mentored have a better chance to
succeed; and
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the students at Albany Community Char-
ter School, the Brighter Choice School for Boys and the Brighter Choice
School for Girls stands as a resolute testimony to each of the insti-
tution's commitment to standards of excellence, uncompromising values as
it relates to challenging archaic pedagogical models, unparalleled dedi-
cation, and the special teamwork of its family of students, parents,
teachers and administrators, who share common goals and uncommon expec-
tations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brighter Choice Foundation for obtaining outstanding academ-
ic success, and to memorialize the mentorship program between the
Brighter Choice Foundation and the Caucus; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brighter Choice Foundation.
