LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Letitia Driscoll upon the occasion of
her designation as the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in
Mahopac, New York, on March 8, 2009

WHEREAS, Saint Patrick's Day is a time for all to celebrate the rich
heritage of the Irish people, unlimited in their contributions to this
greatly diverse land of ours; and
WHEREAS, A Saint Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Letitia Driscoll upon the occasion of her designation as the Grand
Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Mahopac, New York, on Sunday,
March 8, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Born in Maynooth County, Kildare, Ireland, Letitia Driscoll
was the first child of Maria and Michael Sullivan and sister to five
brothers, Colm, Martin, Eamon, Desmond and Barry; and
WHEREAS, Letitia Driscoll attended the Presentation Convent of
Maynooth for primary school; upon graduation, she enrolled at Ms.
Regan's Commercial College in Dublin; she later attended Ms. Jill
Fisher's School of Beauty; and
WHEREAS, Letitia Driscoll immigrated to the United States in 1957,
joining her father who resided in Good Shepard Parish in the Inwood
section of Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, Today, Letitia Driscoll is a proud retiree of the Board of
Education in New York City; prior to that, she was employed by United
States Steel, as an IBM operator, when she met the love of her life,
Patrick J. Driscoll; they were married on November 10, 1961, and togeth-
er, they raised six children, Stephen, Gail, Sheila, Jean, Michelle and
Michael; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Driscoll was born on July 4, 1963; he was Baptized,
made his first Holy Communion and was Confirmed in the Christian faith;
he proudly served in the United States Navy and became a Police Officer
with the New York City Police Department; and
WHEREAS, An exemplary officer, Stephen Driscoll became a member of the
prestigious Emergency Services Division and was assigned to ESU Truck-4
out of the 50th Precinct in the Bronx; one of the first responders at
the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, he made the ultimate
sacrifice while trying to save the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Driscoll lived his life with great dignity and genu-
ine grace; his unwavering compassion and courage will forever serve as a
testament to his mother, Letitia Driscoll; and
WHEREAS, A fitting choice for the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's
Day Parade, Letitia Driscoll embodies the spirit and the cherished
ideals and values of Irish-Americans of this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Letitia Driscoll upon the occasion of her designation as the
Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Mahopac, New York, on
March 8, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Letitia Driscoll.
