LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lois A. Jackson, D.D.S., upon the
occasion of her designation for special honor at the 86th Annual Dinner
Dance of the East Midwood Jewish Center on June 6, 2010

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the State of New York is
greatly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who
devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Lois A. Jackson, D.D.S., upon the occasion of her designation for
special honor at the 86th Annual Dinner Dance of the East Midwood Jewish
Center on Sunday, June 6, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson is a pediatric dentist with offices in Manhattan
and Brooklyn; she and her husband Michael Gerstein have been married for
more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, She is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science,
Barnard College and Columbia University College of Dentistry; she also
completed the Pediatric Dentistry Program at Columbia and a General
Practice Residency in Dentistry at Montefiore Hospital and Medical
Center and was greatly honored to, last year, be named a 2009 Columbia
University Alumni Medalist; and
WHEREAS, A member of several dental organizations, Lois Jackson is
President of the New York State Association of Pediatric Dentistry as
well as a member of the organizational Committee of the Greater New York
Dental Meeting; and
WHEREAS, Lois Jackson is, in addition, a dedicated and valuable member
of East Midwood Jewish Center; she has served on its Board of Trustees
and has been a member of the synagogue's Special Events, Finance, Capi-
tal Campaign and Membership Committees and also helped establish EMJC's
Tot Shabbat and Second Seder; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community as well as in her profession and at
East Midwood Jewish Center, Lois Jackson is a member of many community
organizations and of the boards of the Flatbush Development Corporation,
Museum of Chinese in America and Camp Brooklyn, which helps provide the
camp experience for children, and is also a generous supporter of a
multitude of sports teams, schools and organizations which benefit chil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the course of her service to the East Midwood
Jewish Center and her community, Lois Jackson has exhibited uncommon
valor and wisdom; her involvement and leadership have been characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompro-
mising standard of excellence in all her endeavors; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention
it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the edifica-
tion and emulation of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Dr. Lois A. Jackson for her dedication and commitment to her
profession, her community and her heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to Lois A. Jackson, D.D.S., upon the occasion of her designation
for special honor at the 86th Annual Dinner Dance of the East Midwood
Jewish Center on June 6, 2010; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Lois A. Jackson.
