LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Avi Shapira upon the occasion of his
designation by the Yeshivah of Flatbush as the recipient of the Alumnus
of the Year Award at its 83rd Anniversary Celebration on June 14, 2010

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State is great-
ly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who devote
themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community, and to the
education of the youth of the community; and
WHEREAS, The greatest asset of any society is its children and the
hope and promise they represent for the future; Brooklyn's Yeshivah of
Flatbush (YOF) has a proud and rich history of providing its students
with an educational and religious foundation which is both strong and
enduring, and each year at its Anniversary Celebration it proudly honors
those who help to make it so; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for the Yeshivah of Flatbush and
its students, and in so doing, inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Avi Shapira upon the occasion of his designation by the Yeshivah of
Flatbush as the recipient of the Alumnus of the Year Award at its 83rd
Anniversary Celebration, to be held at Shaare Zion Congregation in
Brooklyn on Monday, June 14, 2010; and
WHEREAS, This year, as the Yeshivah of Flatbush joyously celebrates
its 83rd Anniversary, it pays tribute to those who have contributed
significantly to its development and to the quality of education offered
at the Yeshivah; Avi Shapira truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, For Avi Shapira, a graduate of the YOF Joel Braverman High
School Class of 1983, the Yeshivah holds a truly special place in his
heart; he is grateful not only for the excellent education he received
but for the support and friendship of his rabbis, teachers and class-
mates; he attributes much of his success to their encouragement and
sustenance and his high school classmates remain his closest friends;
and
WHEREAS, A true leader and an outstanding representative of the Yeshi-
vah, Avi Shapira continued his affiliation with the Yeshivah of Flatbush
as a founding member of the Alumni Executive Committee and chaired both
his 10th and 25th Anniversary Reunions, each time introducing inno-
vations which have become part of subsequent reunions; and
WHEREAS, Avi Shapira and his wife Adrianne live in Manhattan with
their sons Aaron and Alex, students at Ramaz; he is a partner at Fremada
Gold, a wholesale fine jewelry business, and is active in his children's
school as well as in his synagogue, Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, and
AMIT; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Avi Shapira for his dedication and commitment to his communi-
ty, its children, and his heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Avi Shapira upon the occasion of his designation as the recipient
of the Alumnus of the Year Award at the 83rd Anniversary Celebration of
the Yeshivah of Flatbush on June 14, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Avi Shapira.
