LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ed Sidote upon the occasion of his
induction into the New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame as a Member
of the Class of 2010

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Ed Sidote upon the occasion of his induction into the New York State
Outdoorsman Hall of Fame as a Member of the Class of 2010; this auspi-
cious event will be celebrated on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the New
York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame Annual Banquet; and
WHEREAS, Organized in 1983 as the Outdoorsman Hall of Fame, the New
York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame (NYSOHOF) was formed to seek out and
honor those individuals who not only have exhibited genuine excellence
in hunting, fishing, trapping, and related outdoor sports, but have
demonstrated sincere and continuing dedication to natural resources
conservation; these individuals are honored "not for what they have
taken, but for what they have given"; and
WHEREAS, The NYSOHOF promotes, organizes and participates in activ-
ities which are directed toward youth, their education, and the educa-
tion of others with the belief that through a better understanding of
man's relationship with his environment comes a better understanding of
ones place and purpose therein; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the NYSOHOF also promotes, above all, the
philosophy that it is the responsibility of all sportsmen to consistent-
ly give to their respective sport as well as receive; the organization's
belief is that general acceptance of its philosophy is the only assur-
ance that future generations may also appreciate the beauty of our
lakes, streams, fields and forests, and that the measure of success
shall be the example it sets for others; and
WHEREAS, Since 1983, the NYSOHOF has inducted over 200 individuals,
recognized for the betterment of the sportsmen's conservation movement
and natural resources conservation; other members of the Hall of Fame
include EVENING SUN Outdoors Columnist Bob McNitt and, posthumously,
President Theodore Roosevelt; and
WHEREAS, Known by many in his community as "Mr. Finger Lakes Trail,"
Ed Sidote is a former Boy Scout Scoutmaster and founder of the Bullthis-
tle Hiking Club; he has relentlessly devoted his time, energy, funds and
abundant knowledge to educating people of all ages and from all walks of
life about the great New York outdoors; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of Chenango County's outdoor community, Ed
Sidote has been a prominent figure in promoting the natural areas of
Chenango County, and has given much of his time to make them accessible
to people; he has made countless presentations to school districts
throughout the county, the Rogers Environmental Education Center, the
Chenango County Historical Society, the New York State Fair and many
county fairs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ed Sidote also earned the title "End to Ender,"
the third person to receive the honor, given to those who complete all
561 miles of the Finger Lakes Trail System; and

WHEREAS, What truly makes Ed Sidote special is the immense amount of
time he has spent, and still spends, teaching and lecturing about the
enjoyment and benefits of the outdoors and nature; he is an outdoorsman
who strongly believes in sound conservation and the critical and neces-
sary role sportsmen and women have in supporting it; and
WHEREAS, In appreciation of his significant achievements in preserving
outdoor heritage and helping others experience it, Ed Sidote has been
designated for special recognition as an inductee in the Class of 2010
New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Ed Sidote for his
extraordinary accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill, dedi-
cation and commitment; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Ed Sidote upon the occasion of his induction
into the New York State Outdoorsman Hall of Fame as a Member of the
Class of 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ed Sidote.
