LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Edmund J. Moderacki upon the occasion
of receiving the 2010 Civic Award from the Bay Ridge Community Council
on June 3, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Edmund J. Moderacki upon the occasion of receiving the 2010 Civic Award
from the Bay Ridge Community Council at its 59th Annual Dinner Dance to
be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at El Caribe Country Club, Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Edmund J. Moderacki has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence,
and diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
subsequently has been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Bay Ridge, New York, Edmund J.
Moderacki is a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and has a
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York Polytechnic
University and a Master's degree in Ocean Engineering from Long Island
University; and
WHEREAS, With great pride and distinction, Edmund J. Moderacki served
in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II;
after a successful career, he retired from the Sperry Rand Corporation;
and
WHEREAS, Edmund J. Moderacki has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Edmund J. Moderacki is the current President of the Bay Ridge
AARP and Saint Anselm Holy Name Society; he is a member of the Senior
Advisory Board of the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults, Bay Ridge
Interagency Council on the Aging, Polish Roman Catholic Union, Knights
of Columbus, Bay Ridge Sesquicentennial Committee, American Heritage
Club, and American Legion Post 157; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Edmund J. Moderacki has worked tirelessly in
many organizations on projects and committees to enhance the quality of
life for Bay Ridge senior citizens; he has promoted legislation to
protect seniors from fraud, worked to establish standards for assisted
living and nursing home safety and quality of life, worked to keep
seniors informed of their rights and to represent their concerns to
elected officials, while advocating for legislation to enhance Medicare
benefits and lower costs for prescription drugs for the elderly; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Edmund J. Moderacki has untiringly participated
in the Bay Ridge Center Miles for Meals Walk-a-thon, Golf Outing, and
Anniversary Dinner to raise funds for vehicles to distribute Meals on
Wheels within the Bay Ridge community; and
WHEREAS, As a member of the Bay Ridge Community Council, Edmund J.
Moderacki chaired and served on the Senior Affairs committee and Veter-
ans committee; he was chairman of the Annual Blood Drive of the Saint
Anselm Holy Name Society benefiting New York Blood Center; he also ran
the Lenten Soup Supper, which provides contributions to agencies, which
service the needy, such as battered women shelters and food pantries in
the area, and has collected coats and used clothing for the poor; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Edmund J. Moderacki has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his efforts of in-depth magnitude, Edmund
J. Moderacki has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades;
he has received the Senior Achievement of the Interagency Council on
Aging, The Alumnus Recognition Award of Polytechnic University, The Rita
Duhig Award for Good Citizenship of the Interagency Council on Aging,
Certificate of Honor of the Polish Roman Catholic Union, AARP Special
Citation for Outstanding Service to the Community and the Bay Ridge
Community Council Treasure of Bay Ridge Award; and
WHEREAS, Edmund J. Moderacki is the proud father of four wonderful
children, and the loving grandfather of three grandchildren, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Edmund J. Moderacki has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edmund J. Moderacki upon the occasion of receiving the 2010
Civic Award from the Bay Ridge Community Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edmund J. Moderacki.
