LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Land Family Foundation upon the
occasion of its designation for special recognition by the Orange County
Land Trust on June 4, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent is to promote environmental conservation and protection as well
as to encourage the appreciation and understanding of the environment as
a whole; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Land Family Foundation upon the occasion of its designation for
special recognition by the Orange County Land Trust at its Annual Bene-
fit Dinner to be held on Friday, June 4, 2010, at the Falkirk Estate and
Country Club, Central Valley, New York; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this most illustrious event is "Giving
Back....and Looking Forward-A Celebration of 18 years Protecting Orange
County's Rural and Agricultural Heritage"; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Orange County Land Trust honors individuals or
organizations that have continuously displayed an unparalleled commit-
ment to the preservation and conservation of land in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Orange County Land Trust selected The Land
Family Foundation in recognition of its unwavering commitment to the
protection of the county's natural areas, working farmland, and water
resources; and
WHEREAS, The Land Family Foundation was established in 1997 by Douglas
Land of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York; its mission is to support a range
of regional environmental organizations including the Orange County Land
Trust, Black Rock Forest, Hudson Highlands Land Trust and The Hudson
Highlands Nature Museum; and
WHEREAS, Douglas Land and his partner, Lynn Peebles also founded, in
2008, the Cornwall Community Cooperative to foster sustainable agricul-
ture in the Hudson Valley and bring healthy, fresh and locally sourced
food choices to consumers in their community; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Lynn Peebles has served on the Board of the
Hudson Highlands Nature Museum since 1999, and is a founding director of
the Cornwall Community Cooperative; Douglas Land recently joined the
Board of the Hudson Highlands Land Trust; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize The Land Family Foundation, for its unwavering commitment to
the citizens of Orange County, as it provides an uncompromising standard
of excellence in the delivery of superlative community service; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon all citizens to recognize and applaud
the efforts of organizations such as The Land Family Foundation, which
has worked tirelessly on behalf of protecting our natural surroundings
for the benefit of present and future generations of New Yorkers; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Land Family Foundation upon the occasion of its designation
for special recognition by the Orange County Land Trust on June 4, 2010;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Land Family Foundation.
