LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Denise Doring VanBuren upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition for her extensive community
service and passion for American history

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legisaltive Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Denise Doring VanBuren upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition for her extensive community service and passion for American
history; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the 14th Annual
Historical Dinner of the Mount Gulian Historic Site, to be held on
Saturday, June 12, 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Corporate Secretary and Vice President of Corporate
Communications for the CH Energy Group, Inc. and Central Hudson Gas &
Electric Corp. since 1993, Denise Doring VanBuren is responsible for the
accuracy and transparency of corporate documents and record- keeping, as
well as timely, relevant and effective communications with all stake-
holders; and
WHEREAS, Denise Doring VanBuren previously worked as Ward One City
Councilwoman in the Beacon City Council, a News Director and Anchor for
NewsCenter 6 in Wappingers Falls, New York, and News Anchor and Reporter
for WGNY AM & FM in Newburgh; and
WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, Denise Doring VanBuren
has compiled an impressive record of civic and charitable service; she
is a member of the Board of Governors of the United Way of Dutchess
County; a member of the Board of Directors of the Samuel F.B. Morse
Locust Grove Historic Site; the Southern Dutchess Exchange Club; the
Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce; the Hudson River Valley Insti-
tute; and the Stony Kill Foundation, Inc.; National Magazine Chairman of
the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and
Editor-in-Chief of the AMERICAN SPIRIT DAR Magazine; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Denise Doring VanBuren served as the Dutchess
County United Way 2005 Campaign Chair; National Chair of Public
Relations for the National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution from 1999 until 2004; Chair of the Board of the Craig House
Center; a Regent of the Melzingah Chapter of the Daughters of the Ameri-
can Revolution from 1998 until 2001; Chair of the City of Beacon's 85th
Anniversary Celebration; Chair of the Orange County United Way Communi-
cations Committee; Past President of the Beacon Historical Society; Vice
President of the Dutchess County Genealogical Society; and a Board
Member of Putnam Hospital Inc., St. Joachim/St. John School, the Howland
Circulating Library and the Beacon Corps of the Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, Denise Doring VanBuren has been the recipient of a multitude
of awards, honors and certificates of recognition, acknowledging her
efforts of in-depth magnitude, including the 2005 Dutchess Award from
the Dutchess County Historical Society, the 1999 City of Beacon Volun-
teer of the Year, a YWCA Salute to Women and Industry Honoree in 1990
and 1997, and the New York State Daughters of the American Revolution
Outstanding Regent in 1999-2000; and
WHEREAS, The co-author of HISTORIC BEACON, BEACON REVISITED and DOOR-
WAYS TO HISTORY: THE STORIES BEHIND THE NEW YORK DAR CHAPTER HOUSES AND

THE WOMEN WHO SAVED THEM, Denise Doring VanBuren received a Master's
degree in Business Administration from Mount Saint Mary College in 1997,
and a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude in Journalism/Mass Commu-
nication from Saint Bonaventure University in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Denise Doring VanBuren
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of her colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Denise Doring VanBuren has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Denise Doring VanBuren upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition for her extensive commuity service and passion for
American history; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denise Doring VanBuren.
