LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Vincent M. Klein, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Vincent M. Klein of Auburn, New York, died on Sunday, May 16,
2010, at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, Born in Auburn, New York, he was the son of the late Herman
B. and Jennie Schwartz Klein; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School, Vincent M. Klein
then served his country during World War II as a member of the United
States Army Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Vincent M. Klein distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return from his service, Vincent M. Klein estab-
lished a successful business in Auburn, New York; he served as presi-
dent, secretary and director of Samuel Schwartz and Sons, Inc., as well
as manager of Schwartz Associates; and
WHEREAS, Vincent M. Klein's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A member of numerous clubs and organizations, Vincent M.
Klein served for three decades on the Cayuga County Community College
Board of Trustees after being appointed by Governor Hugh Carey in 1975;
he was then named to two more terms by Governor Mario Cuomo in 1984 and
1994; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was a trustee of Cayuga County Savings Bank
and Fort Hill Cemetery Association, member of Auburn Board of Directors,
secretary of the Samuel and Bertha/Schwartz Foundation, Inc., campaign
chairman of the 1973 United Fund, president of the YMCA from 1975-1976,
member of the Owasco Planning Board, and a member of the board of direc-
tors of the Cayuga County Chapter of the Association for Retarded Chil-
dren; and
WHEREAS, Vincent M. Klein was also an Auburn Memorial Hospital Board
member, a member of the Congregation B'Nai Beth Israel, a past president
and vice chairman of the board and treasurer of the Auburn Community
Baseball Association, and was involved with the Booker T. Washington
Center; he was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his parents, Vincent M. Klein was predeceased
by his wife, Dorothy, in October 2008; his brother, Joseph Klein; broth-
er-in-laws, Gerald Sherman and William Lee; and a sister-in-law, Grace
Lee; Vincent M. Klein is survived by his two daughters, Heather Klein
and her fiance, Jack Wrobel, and Beth Klein; his sister, Bernice Sher-
man; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Klein; and by several nieces and nephews;
and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Vincent M. Klein leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Vincent M. Klein, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Vincent M. Klein.
