LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Brigadier General Dennis Kerr upon the
occasion of his designation as The Man of the Year by The Pederson-Krag
Center

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so faithfully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during
peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Brigadier General Dennis Kerr upon the occasion of his designation as
The Man of the Year by The Pederson-Krag Center on Wednesday, June 16,
2010, in Northport, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Kerr grew up in Huntington, New York, and graduated
from La Salle Military Academy and went on to attend the Citadel in
Charleston, South Carolina; six hours after his graduation, he was out
on active duty and was on active duty for 31 straight years; and
WHEREAS, Most of those years, Brigadier General Dennis Kerr was in
command of soldiers in active duty throughout the world; he served three
tours in Vietnam as Gunnery Commander in the 82nd Airborne Division,
where he was shot down twice in the same day in different helicopters;
and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Dennis Kerr has numerous awards and acco-
lades, but he considers his biggest accomplishment to be his efforts in
getting a DNA database for each soldier; this particular database
ensures that there will never be an "Unknown Soldier"; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Dennis Kerr's years of strong determination
assured that this special project would come to fruition; he is a true
asset to society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brigadier General Dennis Kerr upon the occasion of his designation
as The Man of the Year by The Pederson-Krag Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brigadier General Dennis Kerr.
