LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Phyllis and Howard Schultz upon the
occasion of their designation by the Jericho Jewish Center as recipients
of the 2010 Couple of the Year Award on June 10, 2010

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and Howard Schultz have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Phyllis and
Howard Schultz upon the occasion of their designation by the Jericho
Jewish Center as recipients of the 2010 Couple of the Year Award to be
celebrated at its Gala Evening of Tribute on Thursday, June 10, 2010;
and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and Howard Schultz have long been a part of the Jeri-
cho community; they joined the Jericho Jewish Center nearly 40 years ago
and have made the synagogue an integral part of their lives; and
WHEREAS, Their children, Felice and Steven, attended Hebrew school at
the Jericho Jewish Center where they became a Bat and Bar Mitzvah; Phyl-
lis and Howard were proud to welcome daughter-in-law Hillary and son-in-
law Ted to their family; they are fortunate to have their children and
grandchildren close by; Felice and Ted live in Plainview with their two
children, David and Alexis, while Hillary and Steven live in Roslyn with
their two daughters, Hannah and Paige; and
WHEREAS, At the Jericho Jewish Center, Howard Schultz served on the
Board of Trustees and as Financial Secretary for many years; Phyllis was
an active member of Parents Council, has served on the Board of Trustees
and has acted as Chairwoman of the congregation's Nominating Committee
for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Phyllis served on the Jericho Jewish Center's
50th Anniversary committee; she was named Woman of Achievement of the
Jericho Jewish Center Sisterhood; both Howard and Phyllis are active
members of the Jericho Jewish Center UJA and Israel Bonds committee; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis Schultz is a former language teacher and taught ESL
for Literacy Volunteers of America; Howard is a CPA and partner in the
firm of Schultz & Sage CPAs, PC located in Lake Success; a community
minded individual, Howard enjoyed coaching his son's soccer team in the
Hicksville American Soccer Club; and
WHEREAS, For over 40 years Phyllis and Howard Schultz have been stead-
fast supporters of the Jericho Jewish Center; they are always in attend-
ance at all synagogue functions and events; and
WHEREAS, Phyllis and Howard Schultz have been called upon to contrib-
ute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors
and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Phyllis and Howard Schultz have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Phyllis and Howard Schultz have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Phyllis and Howard Schultz upon the occasion of their designation
by the Jericho Jewish Center as recipients of the 2010 Couple of the
Year Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Phyllis and Howard Schultz.
