LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joel and Edie Scheinert upon the occa-
sion of their designation for special recognition by Congregation Shaar-
ey Israel in Montebello, New York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Joel and Edie Scheinert have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership, and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joel
and Edie Scheinert upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by Congregation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New York; this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Congregation's Annual
Journal Dinner Dance, to be held on Sunday, June 6, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Joel and Edie Scheinert have been active members of Congre-
gation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New York, for more than 40 years;
they were instrumental in the original formation of Monsey Jewish Center
in 1965, and have been invaluable assets to the synagogue; and
WHEREAS, Joel Scheinert was raised in Brooklyn, New York; he attended
the Wharton School of Business Administration at the University of Penn-
sylvania, and the Harvard Law School; and
WHEREAS, Joel Scheinert worked as an attorney in New York City before
moving his practice of law and his family to Rockland County in 1963; he
continues to practice law at the firm of Scheinert and Kobb, LLC, in
Nanuet, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Chairman of the Board of Congregation Shaarey Israel in
Montebello, New York, for 10 years, Joel Scheinert is the last member of
the original Board that has served continuously; he remains on the Board
as an esteemed legal counselor and parliamentarian; he chairs the
Board's law and nominating committees; and
WHEREAS, Now retired, for many years, Edie Scheinert owned and oper-
ated clothing boutiques in New Jersey and Rockland County, New York; and
WHEREAS, Edie Scheinert was an active member of the Sisterhood at
Congregation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New York; she ran the fashion
shows for many years and chaired several committees; and
WHEREAS, Joel and Edie Scheinert have demonstrated true commitment
through active and continued support to Congregation Shaarey Israel in
Montebello, New York; and
WHEREAS, Married in 1958; Joel and Edie Scheinert are the proud
parents of two children, Howard and Phyllis; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Joel and Edie Scheinert have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joel and Edie Scheinert upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Congregation Shaarey Israel in Montebello, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joel and Edie Scheinert.
