LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Jordan-Elbridge Central School District
Superintendent of Schools Marilyn J. Dominick upon the occasion  of  her
retirement after many distinguished years as an educator
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly  acknowledge  individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of  education  in  this  great
State; and
  WHEREAS,  The  result  of  many individual efforts, the excellence and
success of the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District is due  in  large
part to the efforts of its retiring Superintendent, Marilyn J. Dominick;
and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body  is  justly  proud  to  honor
Jordan-Elbridge  Central School District Superintendent of Schools Mari-
lyn J. Dominick upon the occasion of her retirement after  many  distin-
guished years as an educator; and
  WHEREAS,  Marilyn J. Dominick received her B.S. in Education from SUNY
Cortland and her M.S. in Education from SUNY Oswego;  she  is  also  the
recipient  of  a  Certificate  of Advanced Study in Educational Adminis-
tration from SUNY Oswego and pursued graduate study in Educational Lead-
ership at Syracuse University; and
  WHEREAS, In 1996, Marilyn J. Dominick was the first recipient  of  the
Sheldon  Award  for  Excellence  in Education - Outstanding Alumni Award
from SUNY Oswego; she is certified in nursery, kindergarten, grades 1-6;
grades 7-9 mathematics; grades 7-12  mathematics;  and  school  district
administrator; and
  WHEREAS,  Marilyn J. Dominick began her teaching career in 1978 in the
Onondaga Central schools; she then worked in the East Syracuse  -  Minoa
Central schools from 1988 to 1993; and
  WHEREAS,  In  1993,  Marilyn  J.  Dominick joined the Deruyter Central
School District as an elementary principal/program coordinator and  then
became  its  Superintendent  of  Schools; from 1998 to 2000, she was the
Superintendent of Schools for the Hammondsport Central School  District;
and
  WHEREAS,  Serving as Superintendent of Schools for the Jordan-Elbridge
Central School District from 2000  until  her  scheduled  retirement  on
November  1,  2010, Marilyn J. Dominick managed a staff of approximately
250 employees and a $27 million budget; and
  WHEREAS, During her tenure as Jordan-Elbridge Central School  District
Superintendent  of Schools, Marilyn J. Dominick has been responsible for
the continuous improvement in student achievement over  the  past  three
years and she successfully oversaw two capital projects; and
  WHEREAS,  In addition, Marilyn J. Dominick was a faculty member of the
Superintendents' Development Program at SUNY Oswego, a Board  member  of
both  the Rural Schools Association and Statewide School Finance Consor-
tium; and
  WHEREAS, Marilyn J. Dominick is a member of the Association for Super-
vision and Curriculum Development, American Association of School Admin-
istrators, New York Council of School Superintendents' House  of  Deleg-
ates   (1999-2000)   and   New  York  State  Association  for  Women  in
Administration; and
  WHEREAS, Marilyn J. Dominick's myriad activities and volunteer efforts
include: Director of Adult Ministries and Board member of Auburn  Church
of the Nazarene; she has been a member of the Jordan Elbridge Chamber of
Commerce; Regional Arts Council Oswego BOCES; Library Council OCM BOCES;
Neighborhood  Watch Council; United Way Partners for Children Committee,
Steuben County; Hammondsport Rotary Club; Steuben County  Youth  Bureau;
and Reginald Wood Boy Scouts, Hammondsport; among many others; and
  WHEREAS,  Marilyn  J. Dominick has continually demonstrated an impres-
sive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting  enthusiasm
for the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered in
the  Jordan-Elbridge  Central  School  District  for  the benefit of its
faculty and students, as well as for the entire community; and
  WHEREAS, In completing many years of service as an  educator,  Marilyn
J.   Dominick leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she leaves
behind a legacy to the residents of the community and to  future  gener-
ations of its students; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marilyn J. Dominick upon the occasion of her retirement,  and  for
her  significant contributions to education in New York State; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marilyn J. Dominick, 6515  Stevens  Road,  Jordan,  New  York
13080.
