LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the life and accomplishments of Frank
R. O'Neil, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Former members of the Armed Services from the State of New
York, who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, The late Frank R. O'Neil will be honored on Tuesday, July 6,
2010, at the Albany County "Honor a Veteran Ceremony," to be held at the
Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Frank R. O'Neil, died on February 7, 1997; born on August 10,
1928, in Hudson, New York, he served in the United States Marine Corps
in the Pacific theater at the end of World War II, and in Korea during
the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, During his active duty military service, Frank R. O'Neil was
a sergeant and forward observer with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th
Marines; he was wounded in action in the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Frank R. O'Neil was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal,
Presidential Unit Citation with Ribbon Bar and one Bronze Star, Asiat-
ic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, China Service
Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United
Nations Service Medal and Korean Presidential Unit Citation; and
WHEREAS, After completing his military service, Frank R. O'Neil
returned to the Capital Region and served as an ambulance driver for
Capital District Ambulance; he also worked for American District Tele-
graph and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation;
he retired from the Department of Environmental Conservation in 1983;
and
WHEREAS, Frank R. O'Neil is survived by his son, John O'Neil, and
daughter, Deborah S. Perry, as well as by his brother, Richard O'Neil;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of Frank R. O'Neil, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Frank R. O'Neil.
