LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Miriam B. Gellert upon the occa-
sion of celebrating her 100th Birthday on July 17, 2010

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Miriam B. Gellert upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday on
Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Ship Lantern Inn, Milton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born July 13, 1910, in Yonkers, New York, Miriam B. Gellert
has been a resident of Poughkeepsie, New York for the past 77 years; and
WHEREAS, Miriam B. Gellert graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree
from New York University in 1931; she studied piano during her college
years at Damrosch Institute which became Julliard, the internationally
recognized music school; and
WHEREAS, Miriam B. Gellert married Joseph H. Gellert, a talented
attorney, and supported him in his tenures as City of Poughkeepsie
Judge, Dutchess County Attorney, Community College Trustee and counsel
to the State Senate Banking Committee; and
WHEREAS, She taught piano in the Poughkeepsie area, and has been
employed for many years at the Poughkeepsie and Purchase law firm of
Gellert & Klein, P.C.; and
WHEREAS, A woman of great faith, Miriam B. Gellert is an active member
of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie; in her free time, she enjoys reading
and completing crossword puzzles; and
WHEREAS, Miriam B. Gellert is the proud mother of Arthur L. Gellert,
the loving grandmother of Nina Gellert and James H. Gellert, and the
great grandmother of "Hutch" Gellert; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Miriam B. Gellert upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday on July 17, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Miriam B. Gellert.
