LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Eduardo J. Marti for his many years
of distinguished service to Queensborough Community College

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Eduardo J. Marti for his many years of distinguished service to Queens-
borough Community College; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo J. Marti, an emigre from the tyranny of oppression in
Cuba, came to the United States armed with a thirst for freedom, has
striven mightily and successfully in bringing to countless students the
benefit and sense of achievement that are the result of comprehensive,
sound educational programs; and
WHEREAS, Being recognized by the leadership of multiple community
colleges throughout the State of New York as one who is able to unite
faculty and staff in dynamic and worthwhile instructional programs
designed to provide students with life engaging experiences, Eduardo J.
Marti has been called to assume the presidency of such New York State
community colleges as Queensborough, Corning, Tompkins and Cortland; and
WHEREAS, Having earned a Ph.D. in Biology, Eduardo J. Marti has
emerged as the unique combination of teacher/administrator, successfully
impacting on the outcomes of the many educational efforts he has under-
taken and because of this most powerful and exciting approach, he has
been called upon by many pedagogical organizations such as the Associ-
ation of Presidents' of Public Community Colleges in New York State, the
Board for the Hispanic Educational Telecommunications System, the Board
of Governors for the Council for Aid to Education, the College Board's
Commission on Community Colleges, the California Community College
Collaborative, the Board of the American Association of Community
Colleges, the ACE Commission on International Education, the Board of
the Cornell Institute for Community College Development, the Executive
Committee of the American Association of Community College Presidents
Academy and the Commission for Secondary Education for the Middle States
Association to apply both his broad knowledge and skill to the most
ponderous issues they address; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo J. Marti has a determined reputation for undertaking
difficult institutional problems; subsequently, he was appointed to the
Educational Policy Advisory Committee as well as the New York State
Committee on Higher Education to Chair the Workforce and Economic Devel-
opment Committee; and
WHEREAS, Eduardo J. Marti has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades, some of which include: the Founders Day Award from New
York University, the New York University Alumni Association's Distin-
guished Alumnus Award, the Liberty Medal Award of the New York Post, the
Community Service Award from the Queens Jewish Community Council, the
Service Award from the National Association of Jewish Legislators; he
was also named to the honor roll of the Phi Theta Kappa international
honor society; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eduardo J. Marti has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth of the Queensborough Community College, as well as on the

community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Eduardo J. Marti for his many years of distinguished service
to Queensborough Community College, and to wish him continued success in
all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Eduardo J. Marti.
