LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Stuart and Sheila Salkin upon the
occasion of their designation for special honor by Congregation Shaarey
Israel on June 7, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals and organizations of remarkable integ-
rity and character who distinguish themselves in service to their faith
and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Stuart and Sheila Salkin upon the occasion of their designation for
special honor by Congregation Shaarey Israel at its inaugural Journal
Dinner Dance on June 7, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Stuart and Sheila Salkin have given not only of their time
and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership
and consequently have been designated for this special honor; and
WHEREAS, Stuart and Sheila Salkin have been involved with Congregation
Shaarey Israel for over 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Chairman of the Personnel Committee, Stuart Salkin is a
member of the Finance, Nominating and Ritual Committees and served as
Third and Second Vice President, President and Chairman of the Board of
Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Sheila Salkin served as
President, Third, Second and First Vice President and Recording Secre-
tary of the Board of Trustees; she also chaired the Publicity Committee
for Sisterhood, participated in Shalach Manos, Board of Education,
chaired the Art Auction and chaired the Journal Dinner Dance for many
years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Sheila Salkin founded the Jewish Youth League,
assisted with Shabbatons, created the funds donation and was honored by
the Women's Division of Israel Bonds; and
WHEREAS, Sheila Salkin currently serves on the Ritual and Finance
Committees, was Chairperson of the Board of Education and a member of
the Dedication Committee, and served along with her husband, Stuart, on
the Rabbi's Search Committee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Stuart and Sheila Salkin have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; rare indeed is the impressive
dedication shown by individuals for the benefit of others which they
have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Stuart and Sheila Salkin upon the occasion of their designation
for special honor by Congregation Shaarey Israel on June 7, 2009; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Stuart and Sheila Salkin.
