LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after many years of
dedicated service to the North Amityville Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after many years of dedicated service to the North
Amityville Fire Department; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated
at the Department's 69th Annual Installation of Officers and Awards
Ceremony, to be held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Long Island
Marriott in Uniondale, New York; and
WHEREAS, A member of the North Amityville Fire Department since 1994,
Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry celebrated his 15th Anniversary in the
Department in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Prior to holding the office of Chief of the North Amityville
Fire Department (2007-2008), Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry has held the
offices of Lieutenant of Fire (1997-1998), Captain of Fire (1999-2000),
Third Assistant Chief (2001-2002), Second Assistant Chief (2003-2004),
and First Assistant Chief (2005-2006); and
WHEREAS, Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry has been a driving force in the
North Amityville Fire Department and could always be counted on by the
Department for his service and professionalism; he is greatly respected
and has been an unforgettable firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Recently widowed after 35 years of marriage to his late wife,
Betty, Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry is the father of seven children; he
has 32 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Outgo-
ing Chief Shelley Henry is such a firefighter; throughout his many years
of devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and
beyond the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of
fire protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition after many years of dedicated service to
the North Amityville Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Outgoing Chief Shelley Henry, North Amityville Fire Depart-
ment, North Amityville, New York.
