LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mary Kowal upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by SomeOneSpecial of Middletown, New
York, on March 21, 2009, in celebration of Women's History Month 2009
WHEREAS, Women's History Month, celebrated each year in March, is a time
to reflect upon and pay tribute to the women of our State and Nation for
their contributions to their communities and their professions; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that women of every
economic, ethnic, and religious background have made significant
contributions to their community and to the State of New York, and it is
appropriate to recognize them and to publicly acknowledge their endeav-
ors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mary Kowal upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by SomeOneSpecial of Middletown, New York, on Saturday, March 21, 2009,
in celebration of Women's History Month 2009, and to applaud SomeOneSpe-
cial for doing so; and
WHEREAS, The theme of Women's History Month 2009, Celebrating Women's
Achievements, provides a special opportunity to discover and celebrate
everyday women who have shown leadership in their community; and
WHEREAS, To ensure that women of accomplishment, such as Mary Kowal,
are never forgotten, SomeOneSpecial is proudly honoring Mary Kowal and
other Orange County women who have demonstrated remarkable talent and
hard work throughout the years; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kowal is being recognized as "A Notable Woman of Wisdom,
92 years young," for her ceaseless volunteer service in her community
and as a woman of singular distinction; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Orange County for over 60 years, Mary Kowal had
a long and distinguished career as a line inspector working for Kolmar
Laboratories in Port Jervis, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mary Kowal has been a dedicated volunteer at Bon Secours
Community Hospital since 1986; she has also been actively involved with
the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of Orange County (RSVP) since
1992; and
WHEREAS, Every Wednesday morning, Mary Kowal volunteers at Bon Secours
Community Hospital's information desk; in addition, through her in-depth
efforts, and those of her family, the Volunteer Services Department of
the Hospital received a grant that enabled them to purchase new furni-
ture and equipment for the department; and
WHEREAS, Well known and highly respected by volunteers and employees
alike, Mary Kowal's service does not end at the information desk; she
extends her unwavering kindness to the hospital's patients by visiting
them and often presenting them with a gift, an angel pin; displaying
infinite grace, Mary Kowal has proven to be Bon Secours Community Hospi-
tal's very own angel; and
WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and color-
ful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our culture through their
exemplary leadership; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three children, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned our
recognition and applause; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mary Kowal upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by SomeOneSpecial of Middletown, New York, on March 21,
2009, in celebration of Women's History Month 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Kowal.
