LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado upon the occa-
sion of her retirement as the Assistant Dean/Executive Director of the
SUNY-Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is worthy to take note of and publicly acknowledge indi-
viduals of remarkable integrity and character whose endeavors have
enhanced the quality of education in the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado upon the occasion of her retirement as the
Assistant Dean/Executive Director of the SUNY-Brooklyn Educational
Opportunity Center; and
WHEREAS, On November 17, 2008, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado retired from her
position; during her tenure, she assisted in adult education and work-
force development by helping individuals upgrade their skills and over-
come barriers; her dedication of time in ensuring that education was
granted to the academically and economically underserved is immeasura-
ble; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York,
Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado is the daughter of immigrants from Barbados who
have always placed great emphasis on using education for career advance-
ment; and
WHEREAS, The Assistant Dean/Executive Director of the SUNY-Brooklyn
Educational Opportunity Center for the past 18 years, Dr. Lois Blades-
Rosado is a member of the Continuing Education Association of New York
and the Association of Educational Opportunity Center Directors; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado is a member of the Board
of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Hanson Place Child Development
Center, the Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and
serves as an advisor to the Brooklyn Economic Development Council and
the Technology Council for the New York State Regents; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Education Honor Society, Kappa Delta Phi, Dr.
Lois Blades-Rosado has been the recipient of a multitude of awards,
honors and certificates of recognition, acknowledging her efforts of
in-depth magnitude, including the NAACP Education Award; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado received Bachelor's and Master's
degrees in Bilingual Education from the City College of New York, a
Master's degree in Instructional Technology and a Doctorate in Adult and
Community Education from Teachers' College, Columbia University; she
also earned a postdoctoral certificate from the Institute for the
Management of Lifelong Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 18 years, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to the SUNY-Brooklyn Educational
Opportunity Center, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as the Assistant Dean/Executive Director of
the SUNY-Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center, Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, was governed by a keen sense
of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in her offi-
cial acts; and
WHEREAS, With Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado throughout have been her husband,
Julio Rosado Ayala, and their three daughters and five grandchildren,

all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
many achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado upon the occasion of her retirement as
the Assistant Dean/Executive Director of the SUNY-Brooklyn Educational
Opportunity Center and for her significant contributions to education in
New York State, and to wish her continued success in all of her future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Lois Blades-Rosado.
