LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Albert "Sam" Nader upon the occasion
of receiving the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award from
the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce on April 10, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Albert "Sam" Nader upon the occasion of receiving the Eugene A. Bettiol,
Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award from the Otsego County Chamber of
Commerce at its Annual Banquet and Celebration of Business to be held at
the SUNY Oneonta Hunt Union Ballroom on Saturday, April 10, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Former Oneonta mayor and civic leader, Sam Nader has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
subsequently has been designated for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Sam Nader has made countless contributions to his beloved
hometown throughout the years, including the arrival of professional
baseball in Oneonta, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, Sam Nader formed the Oneonta Athletic Corporation
(OAC), which operated the New York Yankees Class A minor league until
the late 1990s, when the Detroit Tigers located a minor league team in
Oneonta; and
WHEREAS, Sam Nader, and his partners, sustained one of the longest
continuously operated franchises in baseball; his team pioneered
promotions and events that would receive national attention and be
adopted by other teams throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Sam Nader's commitment to the greater Oneonta area extends
far beyond government and baseball and has been recognized by numerous
local institutions and civic organizations, some of which include Oppor-
tunities for Otsego, LEAF Counsel on Alcoholism and Addictions, and
Wilber National Bank; in addition, the State University College at
Oneonta annually awards the Albert S. and Alice H. Nader Scholarship to
a deserving local student; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community endeavors,
including his service as mayor of the City of Oneonta, Sam Nader has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Albert Nader has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sam Nader upon the occasion of receiving the Eugene A. Bettiol,
Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award from the Otsego County Chamber of
Commerce on April 10, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Albert "Sam" Nader.
