LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Unadilla Boy Scout Troop 1 upon the
occasion of hosting a statewide Centennial Encampment in celebration of
the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members are dedicated
to the development of character and leadership in the youth of this
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Unadilla Boy Scout Troop 1 upon the occasion of hosting a statewide
Centennial Encampment for the Otschodela Council and nearby troops on
May 15, 2010, in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the congres-
sional chartering of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious event will include a variety of activities
including: troop skills demonstrations, many environmental and merit
badge oriented displays, a live raptor exhibit, geo-caching, and the
grand opening of the Unadilla Historical Association's museum exhibit
"Troop 1-A Century of Scouting"; in addition, the largest scout parade
in New York State will be held followed by a campfire and fireworks; and
WHEREAS, Unadilla Troop 1 received charter number 166 on September 7,
1910; since then, it has been continuously chartered every year, making
it the oldest, continuously chartered troop in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on
February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an
educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to
train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to
develop personal fitness; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America have so manifestly contributed to
the preservation of those treasured ideals of compassion, honor,
preparedness and concern for others which are so paradigmatic of our
American Heritage; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Unadilla Boy Scout Troop 1 upon the occasion of hosting a state-
wide Centennial Encampment in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of
the Boy Scouts of America; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brian Danforth, Scoutmaster, Troop 1, Boy Scouts of America,
Unadilla, New York.
