LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John E. Dailey, Jr. upon the occasion of
his induction into the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame on May 16,
2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those New
Yorkers who have so distinguished themselves in athletics as to bring
great pride to the citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
E. Dailey, Jr. upon the occasion of his induction into the Rockland
County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 16, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame was established in
1974 to honor professional and amateur sportsmen and sportswomen who
gained prominence in their sports while competing or residing in Rock-
land County; and
WHEREAS, John E. Dailey, Jr., affectionately known as Jack, entered
Tappan Zee High School in the fall of 1956; he participated in Cross
Country and Track earning varsity letters in both sports in each of the
four years he attended high school; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, John E. Dailey, Jr.'s extraordinary
successes earned him recruiting visits from Syracuse University, Villa-
nova, Duke University, West Point Military Academy, Dartmouth, Harvard
and many other prominent colleges with successful running programs; he
ultimately accepted a full four-year scholarship to Syracuse University;
and
WHEREAS, In his freshman year at Syracuse (1960), John E. Dailey, Jr.
was partnered with some equally talented high school runners; this rook-
ie freshmen team wasted no time bringing great honor to the University;
the "Thinclads" as referred to in the school newspaper as well as local
news outlets, posted a 7-0 season, capturing the Freshmen Championship
title; and
WHEREAS, Four outstanding runners from the freshmen team, including
John E. Dailey, Jr., would earn their way to the Syracuse University
Varsity Track Team in their Sophomore year; their coach often referred
to the quartet as the best sophomore group he had seen in years; and
WHEREAS, John E. Dailey, Jr., tallied various individual successes
while competing in Cross Country and Track at Syracuse University; he
earned varsity letters in Cross Country in 1961, 1962, and 1963, and in
Track in 1962 and 1963; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, John E. Dailey, Jr.'s personal
skills, characteristics and qualities mirror that of his athletic accom-
plishments; and
WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from Syracuse University in 1964, John E.
Dailey, Jr. chose to remain in Upstate New York, where he actively
participates and volunteers his time to various organizations; he is
also a devoted member of his church and continues to enjoy running as
well as golf; and
WHEREAS, Professionally, John E. Dailey, Jr.'s aspirations led him to
the steel industry; he was recruited by the Murphy and Nolan Company
following graduation where he remains as the Vice President of Sales;
and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Carolyn, and their
children, Matthew, Megan, Maureen and Jennifer, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor John E. Dailey, Jr.
for his extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to
his skill, dedication and commitment; his character and achievements

stand as a sterling example and inspiration to all who would aspire to
success; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John E. Dailey, Jr. upon the occasion of his induction into the
Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame on May 16, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John E. Dailey, Jr.
