LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Community Access, Inc. upon the occa-
sion of its 35th Anniversary Good Neighbor Gala on May 20, 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality of
life in the communities of the great State of New York is greatly
enriched by the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
institutions of distinction whose singular purpose is the care and
welfare of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
and commend Community Access, Inc. upon the occasion of its 35th Anni-
versary Good Neighbor Gala, to be held at New York University's Kimmel
Center for University Life on Wednesday, May 20, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Community Access is a national leader in providing affordable
housing with support services to help people with psychiatric disabili-
ties make the transition from shelters and institutions to independent
living; and
WHEREAS, Community Access operates more than 800 units of affordable
housing for people with disabilities and working families and an addi-
tional 240 units are under development; and
WHEREAS, To help bridge the gap between homelessness and full communi-
ty participation, Community Access also provides intensive skills devel-
opment, job coaching, peer counseling, and support in the creative and
liberal arts to over 1,600 individuals and families annually; and
WHEREAS, Linking award winning housing to high quality support
services has, for 35 years, been the mission of Community Access; as it
celebrates more than three decades of helping thousands of people living
with psychiatric disabilities enjoy dignified lives, it will also proud-
ly honor several individuals who have helped to support and further that
mission; and
WHEREAS, Steve Coe, Chief Executive Officer of Community Access, Inc.
will be honored in recognition and appreciation of his 30 years of
outstanding leadership of the organization; and Carri Lyon, Senior
Director, and Mark Mandell, Executive Director, of Cushman & Wakefield,
Inc., a highly regarded commercial real estate brokerage and consulting
firm, will also be honored at the Gala; and
WHEREAS, Community Access was founded in belief that people with
psychiatric disabilities can lead productive, dignified, and valued
lives in the community; as it celebrates its 35th Anniversary and reded-
icates itself to ensuring that homeless and disabled New Yorkers have
homes, hope, and a better future, this Legislative Body is pleased to
have the opportunity to commend Community Access, recognizing its 35
years of dedicated service and extraordinary accomplishment; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Community Access, Inc. upon the occasion of its 35th Anniversary
Good Neighbor Gala on May 20, 2009, to recognize its long and sustained
commitment to the health and welfare of those it serves, and to applaud
all those who have given of themselves to help it fulfill its mission;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Community Access, Inc. and to the honorees of the evening.
