LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Huntington Lodge No. 1565, Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks and commemorating its 80th Anniversary, to
be celebrated in 2009

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
praise organizations of true purpose and worthy accomplishment whose
dedication and commitment to service, patriotism, and fellowship merit
the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Founded in New York City in 1868, the Benevolent and Protec-
tive Order of Elks (B.P.O.E.) of the United States of America is one of
the oldest, largest, and most active fraternal organizations in the
country; today it proudly numbers nearly one million men and women, as
members in more than 2,000 lodges nationally, who share a commitment to
its basic principles; and
WHEREAS, The principles of the Elks are the practice of charity,
justice, brotherly love and fidelity; the promotion of the welfare and
the enhancement of the happiness of its members; the quickening of the
spirit of American patriotism and the cultivation of good fellowship;
and
WHEREAS, Huntington Lodge No. 1565 was founded in 1929 and embraced
the principles of its parent organization with great zest, always keep-
ing in mind its obligation to charitable and philanthropic endeavors;
and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to the principles of the Elks over a noble
history of 80 years of service to its community, Huntington Lodge No.
1565 has faithfully supported service and charitable efforts in the
Huntington community; and
WHEREAS, Accomplishing through the organization what they could not
achieve individually, the members of Huntington Lodge No. 1565 have
generously given of themselves, devoting their experience, knowledge,
time and caring concern to assist those in need, paying particular
attention to the veterans and children of the area; and
WHEREAS, The members of Huntington Lodge No. 1565 have long been
recognized as pillars within their community, always seeking to build
the firmest foundations upon which Huntington, Long Island, New York
State, and our nation will continue to grow and prosper; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Huntington Lodge No. 1565, Benevolent and Protective Order of
Elks, of Huntington, New York, commemorating its 80th Anniversary of
distinguished service, to be celebrated with a gala Night Under the
Stars on June 27, 2009; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Huntington Lodge No. 1565, 195 Main Street, Huntington, New
York 11743.
