LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Detective Lieutenant William Siegrist
upon the occasion of his retirement from the City of Poughkeepsie Police
Department after 40 years of distinguished service
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Detective
Lieutenant William Siegrist upon the occasion of his retirement from the
City of Poughkeepsie Police Department after 40 years of distinguished
service; and
WHEREAS, A few minutes after reporting for his first day of work as a
City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer on June 7, 1969, Detective Lieuten-
ant William Siegrist and another officer climbed into a police car and
patrolled the south side of the city for the next eight hours; for the
next 40 years, he investigated crime in the city; and
WHEREAS, For 22 years, Detective Lieutenant William Siegrist served as
an officer in the patrol division before being appointed as a detective
in 1991; five years later, he was promoted to lieutenant and head of the
detective division; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for Detective Lieutenant William Siegrist
and to wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Detective Lieutenant William Siegrist upon the occasion of his
retirement from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department after 40
years of distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Detective Lieutenant William Siegrist.
