LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Larry Spiewak upon the occasion of his
designation by the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush as the
recipient of the Kesser Shem Tov Award at its 32nd Annual Community
Legislative Breakfast on March 27, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those illustrious individuals of the State of New York whose
purposeful endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Larry Spiewak upon the occasion of his designation for special honor by
the Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO) of Flatbush as the recipient
of its 2011 Kesser Shem Tov Award; and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak, successful businessman and communal leader,
will be honored at the Council's 32nd Annual Community Legislative
Breakfast, to be held at The Kings Terrace in Brooklyn, New York, on
Sunday, March 27, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Since 1979, the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush
has coordinated the efforts of all parts of the Jewish community,
including educational, healthcare, religious, social welfare and other
organizations and institutions, and has acted as an advocate for the
communal and individual needs of the entire, increasingly diverse,
Southern Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, Its 32nd Annual Community Legislative Breakfast provides an
opportunity to pay tribute to those who have supported the Council and
have helped to further its efforts, as well as those who exemplify its
mission of improving the quality of life of the citizens it serves; and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak is an exceptional individual who, for many
years has dedicated himself to supporting Jewish communal causes; his
indefatigable and pioneering efforts on behalf of the Flatbush community
have helped many in need; and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak has served on the board of Chai Lifeline for
more than 20 years and has been part of its three-member Presidium for
over 10 years; an organization that helps many children suffering from
cancer and other life-threatening or chronic illnesses, Chai Lifeline is
of great assistance in helping children and their families withstand the
crises and challenges of serious pediatric illness; and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak's wife, Mindy, is also a dedicated volunteer
who donates blood and platelets for the ailing children; deeply commit-
ted, she has inspired the Spiewak children to follow in her footsteps
and they, too, have become donors; and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak serves on the Board of the Yeshivah of Flat-
bush, where he has been an officer and Trustee for over 25 years; he is
also the proud President of his synagogue, Beth-El Jewish Center of
Flatbush, and a welcome and valued Member of the Board of the Council of
Jewish Organizations of Flatbush and its dedicated Executive Committee;
and
WHEREAS, Larry Spiewak is, in addition, a member of Tzivos Hashem, an
organization which is in the forefront of the effort to revitalize
Jewish identity in children; it provides children with a Jewish educa-
tion through informal and entertaining programs; the Jewish Children's
Museum in Crown Heights is one of its outstanding achievements; and
WHEREAS, Together with his wife, Mindy, Larry Spiewak is involved as
well with Just One Life, an organization that provides financial support
to pregnant women in Israel who might not otherwise be able to afford to
have their babies; and

WHEREAS, A successful businessman and President of Kwik Ticket, a
company he established 30 years ago which supplies store equipment for
retail establishments, Larry Spiewak travels all over the world to
locate new products and remain competitive in today's commercial market-
place while continuing to give generously of his time, talent, and
expertise to countless civic and charitable endeavors; and
WHEREAS, With Larry Spiewak throughout have been his devoted wife
Mindy and their four children and three grandchildren, all of whom are
proud to be part of his life and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the
edification and emulation of others; now; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Larry Spiewak upon the occasion of his designation as the recipi-
ent of the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush's Kesser Shem Tov
Award at its 32nd Annual Community Legislative Breakfast on March 27,
2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Larry Spiewak.
