LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending New York City FIRST upon the occasion
of hosting its 2011 New York City FIRST Mega Celebration

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions that would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
New York City FIRST upon the occasion of hosting its 2011 New York City
FIRST Mega Celebration on March 12-13, 2011, at the Jacob Javits Conven-
tion Center; and
WHEREAS, This event consists of 200 student robotics teams participat-
ing in four competitions demonstrating their technical and entrepreneu-
rial skills; and
WHEREAS, The mission of FIRST is to inspire students to pursue further
studies and careers in science and technology and to help them acquire
the knowledge and skills needed to compete in the technologically-driven
global economy; and
WHEREAS, Participation in FIRST has a positive impact on the lives of
students, increasing college attendance, majors in science and engineer-
ing, participation in internships and co-ops, and involvement in commu-
nity service; and
WHEREAS, More than 130 colleges, universities, and professional asso-
ciations partner with FIRST to provide a significant amount in scholar-
ships to students who were members of a FIRST team while in high school;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend New York City FIRST upon the occasion of hosting its 2011 New
York City FIRST Mega Celebration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to New York City FIRST.
