LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to the Village of Walden upon the
occasion of hosting its Leadership Day, and recognizing this year's
honorees

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of individuals who
are devoted to the welfare of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, The Village of Walden, under the luminous leadership of its
Mayor, The Honorable Brian Maher, is committed to enhancing the quality
of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive business, institutional and
educational climate, and providing all essential services; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to pay trib-
ute to the Village of Walden upon the occasion of establishing its Lead-
ership Day, Thursday, January 13, 2011; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious day will include an Awards Ceremony to be
held in the Municipal Building, recognizing this year's honorees for
their exceptional volunteerism and public service; these extraordinary
volunteers include Rachel Zaleski, Deborah Robb, David Kurtz and Gary
Kurtz; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Zaleski is the proud recipient of the Youth Leadership
Award; she has had an exemplary impact at both her school as well as
within her community; with an above average work ethic, this young woman
has shown outstanding leadership skills and given much of her time to
volunteer activities; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Robb, an individual who also displays remarkable
volunteerism while exhibiting the type of character that makes the
Village of Walden residents proud, is presented with the distinct honor
of the Volunteer of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, The Sam Phelps Service Award is being bestowed upon David and
Gary Kurtz for having displayed noble character and diligence in carry-
ing out good deeds while remembering the benevolent spirit and steadfast
volunteerism of Sam Phelps; and
WHEREAS, Those who give of their time and energies and serve the best
interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; Rachel Zaleski, Deborah Robb, David
Kurtz and Gary Kurtz are four such individuals; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Rachel Zaleski, Deborah Robb, David
Kurtz and Gary Kurtz have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to the Village of Walden upon the occasion of hosting its Lead-
ership Day, and to recognize this year's honorees for their exceptional
volunteerism and public service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Brian Maher, and the aforementioned honorees.
