LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Helen Crosson, Alice DelBosco, Carol
DuBois and Julie Rinaldini upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Legacy of Conservation Award by the Theodore Roosevelt
Sanctuary and Audubon Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Helen Crosson, Alice DelBosco, Carol DuBois and Julie Rinaldini upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the Legacy of Conserva-
tion Award by the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center; this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Center's 2011 Legacy of
Conservation Gala, to be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Piping
Rock Club in Locust Valley, New York; and
WHEREAS, Located in Oyster Bay, New York, the Theodore Roosevelt Sanc-
tuary and Audubon Center was established in 1923 as the first Audubon
Songbird Sanctuary in the nation; its original purpose was to provide a
protected environment for songbirds whose populations were declining due
to habitat loss; and
WHEREAS, A vibrant resource offering a wide variety of activities,
including environmental education, wildlife research, and conservation
advocacy, the mission of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon
Center is to connect people with nature while promoting a sense of envi-
ronmental stewardship through natural science educational programs; and
WHEREAS, Director of the Cold Spring Harbor Library, Helen Crosson is
not only an active champion of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and
Audubon Center, but also instrumental in the creation of the Cold Spring
Harbor Library and Environmental Center, the first and only library on
Long Island dedicated to the environment; and
WHEREAS, With her years of experience, Helen Crosson has shown the
impact that public libraries have on communities; through partnerships
with many organizations, she has served and promoted the informational,
cultural, educational and recreational needs of the public; and
WHEREAS, A Board Member of the Huntington Oyster Bay Audubon Society,
the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center, and Audubon New
York, Alice DelBosco has been an advocate for environmental education
and conservation for many years; she is Chair of the Audubon New York
Education Committee and guided the implementation of its state-wide
education plan; and
WHEREAS, A recipient of the Norman L. Stotz Award for Extraordinary
Volunteer Services, Alice DelBosco has been a valued member of the Audu-
bon community for over 40 years; she was a founding member of the Theo-
dore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center and is President of Hunting-
ton Audubon; and
WHEREAS, Carol DuBois is a former President of the Action for the
Conservation and Preservation of the North Shore of Long Island and a
Board Member of the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium; she
has dedicated most of her life to environmental conservation; and
WHEREAS, A founding member and former President of the Winter Wheezers
Hiking group, Carol DuBois is a dedicated volunteer to many organiza-

tions, including the Nassau Chapter of the American Red Cross and
Doubleday-Babcock Senior Center in Oyster Bay; and
WHEREAS, Through her longtime work with the North Shore Land Alliance
(NSLA) to preserve Long Island's unique cultural and environmental trea-
sures, Julie Rinaldini has made a profound impact on her community; her
involvement and generosity to NSLA have led to the preservation and
protection of many habitats on Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Julie Rinaldini is an active advocate and devoted volunteer
to numerous local organizations and charities, including the Society for
the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, Nassau County Museum of
Art, and Old Westbury Gardens; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their professional and commu-
nity service, a period of constructive involvement, Helen Crosson, Alice
DelBosco, Carol DuBois and Julie Rinaldini have stood constant in digni-
ty, good grace and humor, and have earned the respect and admiration of
their colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Helen Crosson, Alice DelBosco, Carol
DuBois and Julie Rinaldini have displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Helen Crosson, Alice DelBosco, Carol DuBois and Julie Rinaldini
upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the Legacy of
Conservation Award by the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon
Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Helen Crosson, Alice DelBosco, Carol DuBois and Julie Rina-
ldini.
