LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rocco Basile upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Man of the Year Award by Reaching-Out
Community Services on April 28, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
individuals of preeminent character whose lives exemplify the highest
ideals of humanity and whose lifework and civic endeavor serve to
enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Rocco Basile upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Man of the Year Award by Reaching-Out Community Services to be cele-
brated at its Annual Dinner and Gala at Rex Manor in Brooklyn, New York,
on Thursday, April 28, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Rocco Basile has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to his community and profession and
consequently has been designated for this most prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, A resident of New York City, Rocco Basile graduated in 1986,
with honors from Xaverian High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; he went on
to earn his bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from New York
University in 1990; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Rocco Basile works at Basile Builders Group (BBG),
a family-owned real estate development firm which has successfully
constructed over 30 buildings throughout the New York City area and has
employed hundreds of subcontractors; and
WHEREAS, Devoting countless hours and boundless energy to the mission
of educating underprivileged children in the area of Southwest Brooklyn,
Rocco Basile served on the Board of Directors of Children of the City
for six years and most recently as its Board Chair; and
WHEREAS, Children of the City is the only organization in the Sunset
Park region providing at-risk students with a solid and comprehensive
educational program that addresses their lack of proper academic
resources; furthermore, it provides a multitude of services to families
in the community including counseling, legal advocacy, life skills
training, guardianship, and mentoring; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Basile has also raised a substantial amount of funds in
conjunction with Xaverian High School's Joe DiMaggio Committee, for
children with special needs; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Basile has assisted and offered support to ComALERT, a
program designed to help parolees re-acclimate themselves to society and
establish themselves professionally; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Basile has also worked closely with Safe Horizon, the
largest victim assistance agency for domestic violence, offering dedi-
cated support to victims and their families as well as violence
prevention programs and justice promotion; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Missy, and their two
daughters, Ava and Olivia, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Rocco
Basile over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the

recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rocco Basile upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Man of the Year Award by Reaching-Out Community Services on April
28, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rocco Basile.
