LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joan E. Mandy, R.N. upon the occasion of
her designation by Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers as the
recipient of a 2011 Franciscan Award on April 30, 2011

WHEREAS, Individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and
in service to their community are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joan E. Mandy, R.N. has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence, and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Joan E. Mandy,
R.N. upon the occasion of her designation by Saint Francis Hospital and
Health Centers as the recipient of a 2011 Franciscan Award; and
WHEREAS, The Franciscan Award is the highest award bestowed by Saint
Francis Hospital and Health Centers of Poughkeepsie, New York; it is
given to individuals whose lives have mirrored the spirit of selfless
giving exemplified by Saint Francis of Assisi and whose unwavering dedi-
cation and service enhance the quality of life in the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Joan Mandy will be presented with this most prestigious award
at the 30th Annual Franciscan Award Gala to be held at The Grandview in
Poughkeepsie on Saturday, April 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Joan Mandy has been called
upon to contribute her time and talents to countless endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A 1953 graduate of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nurs-
ing, Joan Mandy worked in the Marlboro Central School District as a
School Nurse Teacher for 27 years; she was also the Coordinator of
Health Education/Health Services and was a curriculum writer for Orange
County and Ulster County BOCES; and
WHEREAS, Continuing to stay strongly connected to Saint Francis, Joan
Mandy is an active member and the former Co-president of the Saint Fran-
cis Hospital Auxiliary and is a member of the Saint Francis Hospital
Mair Legacy Society, a society honoring those who help to provide for
the future of the hospital through their estate plans; and
WHEREAS, A mother of six and grandmother of eight, Joan Mandy also
sings in the Mount Saint Alphonsus Choir; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others as that demonstrated by Joan E. Mandy; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend them for the
edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joan E. Mandy, R.N. upon the occasion of her designation by Saint
Francis Hospital and Health Centers as the recipient of a 2011 Francis-
can Award on April 30, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joan E. Mandy, RN.
