LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Catholic Community Services of Rock-
land, Inc. upon the occasion of its Second Annual Initiative "Community
Garden of Love"

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Catholic Community Services of Rockland, Inc. upon the occasion of its
Second Annual Initiative "Community Garden of Love"; and
WHEREAS, The Community Garden of Love is a community vegetable garden
that harvests fresh produce to feed the community; the garden is spon-
sored by the Catholic Community Services of Rockland, the Cornell Coop-
erative Extension's Master Garden Program, and numerous volunteers and
donors from the community; and
WHEREAS, In its first year, the group provided more than 105,000 meals
and 2,000 pounds of fresh vegetables to 1,500 registered individuals and
families with food from the pantry and garden; and
WHEREAS, Catholic Community Services of Rockland, Inc. (CCSR) was
established in the mid-1990s as an outgrowth of the parish social minis-
try program of Catholic Charities in Rockland County to provide addi-
tional social services to those in need in Rockland County; and
WHEREAS, Numerous services are provided by Catholic Community Services
of Rockland, Inc., some of which include: counseling, emergency meals,
eviction prevention, financial assistance, information and referral, job
readiness and placement, and reuniting families; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization is under the luminous direction of
Executive Director, Martha Robles; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing its strength and commitment, and the quality and
extent of its programs and services, it is the custom of this Legisla-
tive Body to extend its highest commendation to Catholic Community
Services of Rockland, Inc., applauding its preeminent endeavors and
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Catholic Community Services of Rockland, Inc. upon the occasion
of its Second Annual Initiative "Community Garden of Love"; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Martha Robles, Executive Director, Catholic Community
Services of Rockland, Inc., 78 Hudson Avenue, Haverstraw, New York
10927.
