LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Bethlehem Central High School upon
the occasion of capturing the Regional Science Bowl Championship

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people, who by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Bethlehem Central High School upon the occasion of capturing the
Regional Science Bowl Championship; and
WHEREAS, The contest was held at the GE Global Research Center in
Niskayuna, New York, on March 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, With this victory, Bethlehem Central High School will be
invited to participate in the National Science Bowl on April 28 - May 3,
2011, in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, GE and Knolls Atomic Power Lab hosted the local tournament, a
fast-paced question-and-answer contest designed to test high school
students' knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, energy,
earth science, and general science; and
WHEREAS, In the tournament, Bethlehem Central High School went unde-
feated in 12 matches; the team will be one of 60 from around the country
competing in the national tournament which is sponsored by the Federal
Department of Energy; and
WHEREAS, Coached by biology teacher Paul O'Reilly, the Bethlehem
Central High School Science Bowl team members are: Gurtej Kanwar, Mike
Clawar, Austin Mayron, Colin Nicotina and Ray Futia; they are true
assets to society; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Bethlehem Central High School upon the occasion of captur-
ing the Regional Science Bowl Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Paul O'Reilly, and to the aforementioned Bethlehem
Central High School Science Bowl team members.
